This thread started so innocently. But then someone brought up the philosophers, and someone else proclaimed a lack of interest in ancient schools of philosophy.

Then it became a raging shit storm.

My at least half if not predominately Hellenic friends list are probably all nodding your heads right now. Yeah, you've seen this

It says something when a number of people can say in all honesty that they have never met a NeoPlatonist that they liked. I don't know where the attitude comes from, like I said in an above comment, you would think such enlightened people would be above the need to use their alleged specialness to batter the rest of us (and the fact that there are people in that camp, not Todd but others, who don't really believe that the gods interact with individuals and those of us who claim relationships are just trying to appear special, is that much more hilarious).

You're right, it makes the worst possible impression on new comers; if I had run into this back when I was still completely new to things it would have been a lot harder for me to hang around, I have no use for such attitudes and I don't know many others who do either.

I don't ever remember Todd being that bad, I do remember him always being a bit more philosophically inclined, but I don't remember him ever being such a self righteous ass about it before. Its been a few years since I've been on more than a small handful of lists and I never interacted with him much to begin with (lack of commonality, never felt approachable to me), but that isn't the way I remember it. Don't know what happened there.
