The Horror ... The Horror ....

I went over to imdb.com tonight looking up another movie, and saw over in the corner where they list the top viewed trailers a listing for Friday the 13th. I clicked on the link really hoping that it wasn't what it looked like it was.

Sadly, it was. Yes people, they have remade Friday the 13th (or "reimagined it" like that's a big fucking difference). Says its coming out in February this coming year.

This pisses me off on a why can't they ever do anything else level. I care less about the integrity of this movie, I've been in the room for both the first and second movie and neither could hold my attention for more than ten minutes at a time, its pretty boring shit. Actually the only Jason movie I was able to watch all the way through was Freddy v. Jason, which I actually kind of liked even if the idea of it initially made me want to vomit (its entertaining, and it doesn't try to pretend to be anything other than what it is, like scary its not and it knows it isn't).

And if you want any further proof that Hollywood doesn't know what to do anymore, and I read this on the IMDB article on the Friday the 13th remake you can go find it for yourselves. During the lull after Freddy v. Jason came out, and people were looking for a new horror movie to make apparently Jason was the only thing they could think to work with. Now this remake is what they decided to go with, but a ton of potential Friday the 13th sequels were proposed, along with (and I'm serious, sadly serious) Freddy v. Jason v. Ash (the chainsaw handed hero of The Evil Dead series, for those of you who don't know), and Jason v. Leatherface.

A while back I made a crack about Freddy v. Jason v. Alien v. Predator looming on the horizon, followed by its sequel where they all team up to destroy Micheal Myers. I was joking at the time, but oh my fucking gods doesn't seem so funny anymore now, does it?

Don't worry, these movies are not being made now. Repeat, they are NOT being made. (although they have been proposed, so who knows if they won't get picked up again when there is another lull in the space between a screenplay writer's ears ... no, not thinking about it, not thinking about it, lalalalalalalala)

Even worse, in addition to the Friday the 13th remake, Hollywood is also now producing remakes of Nightmare on Elm Street, The Evil Dead and Hellraiser.

What, is that now every big horror franchise of the eighties?

And these were movies that I did like (particularly the last two) so I'm far more pissed off to hear this.

Especially The Evil Dead. You can't remake that movie! That movie was good because it was a cheesy low budget B movie with horrible special effects? What, are you going to replace the claymation sequence at the end with state of the art special effects? What's the point of that?

*headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk*

movies, things that should not be, hollywood sucks, what the fuck, horror, things that make my brain bleed
