Incident at 15th and Norris Streets
Last night, there was a shooting at approximately 11:30 p.m. at 15th and Norris streets. A female was struck by bullets fired by a male near a Temple security booth. The victim is being treated at Temple University Hospital. Philadelphia police have identified a suspect in the case and are pursuing an arrest warrant. They believe the shooting was a result of a domestic disagreement and neither the perpetrator nor the victim are believed to have any ties to Temple.
The security guard in the booth, an employee of Allied Security, was not harmed. Allied Security provides security services for the university to supplement the Temple University police force.
Philadelphia and Temple University police quickly determined that the shooting was not random and therefore there was no threat to the campus community. As you know, Temple has a comprehensive emergency alert system to communicate with students, faculty and staff in the case of a critical event or disaster requiring immediate action. Because the police determined that the incident had been contained, the alert system was not implemented.
Your safety and security are of utmost importance to Temple University. We want to take this opportunity to remind you to be vigilant regarding campus safety matters at all times. We all have the responsibility to keep our community safe. In the event of an emergency or if you observe suspicious activity, report it immediately to Temple Police at (215) 204-1234.
