New Year Resolutions

...do I have any? maybe, go to the movies more often.

it's been ages since I've been to see a movie in a movie theater. and sadly, it's not that I didn't want to, there are just so few good ones out - I am waiting impatiently for a few, like Atonement, but they're few and far in between - TV has proven to be a *much* more entertaining medium this past yr. although this last month has been grim... surprisingly though, there're so many shows I have yet to see, yet with no brand *new* episodes giving me a weekly dosage of excitement, I'm growing a bit ..frustrated shall we say? I've always been drawn to what's new out there. even if I *know* that I have a much better chance of finding a gem in older productions (i.e. B5) than in the myriad of new productions each Fall Season. yet still, *new* ones draw me in, hence my recent New Amsterdam viewing. even with B5, I was almost tempted to skip seasons 4 & 5 and see The Lost Tales first. I knew perfectly well I shouldn't, but as is usually the case I couldn't contain my general anticipation about all things new. that is also why the first episode I've seen of Stargate SG-1 was 7x19 Resurrection, after that 7x17-18 Heroes and only after that 7x01 and the rest of the season that had only just aired then.

as for my New Year resolution? well, the last movie I've seen was Death at a Funeral. I don't necessarily enjoy comedies in a movie theater, just bc that genre doesn't really require a big screen to convey the meaning, and I much rather sit cozily at home flooded with refreshments. the cast was exceptionally *English* in their adorable unexceptional way that they have. very down to earth, almost too much so. of course I got persuaded to see this movie bc of Alan Tudyk, whose hysterical scene in the first ep of Firefly still rings in my head: Curse your sudden and inevitable betrayal! he is superb in this little comedy venture! even if being naked in half his scenes. LOL. let's hope I'll find me sth special to see next weekend!!

[ETA] I so completely loved the music on New Amsterdam, especially upon today's re-watch, that I searched over for the titles of these songs: "Come and See" by The Decemberists & "Your Heart is an Empty Room" by Death Cab for Cutie; apart from those tough, there was also quite an excellent score. darn, I think I *like* this show. too bad it's probably already dead in the can; even before the strike, FOX had some problems with it, pushing it down to mid-season and now postponing indefinitely...

new amsterdam, movies, reviews, stargate sg1, babylon 5
