Friday Night Lights 2.02 Bad Ideas

I reserved my judgment until this 2nd ep to give this yr storylines time to sit with me and to get further developed. There wasn't a show this Fall Season I anticipated more than FNL; and my initial reaction was with trepidation and dread, but I tuned in with a giddy grin on my face chanting "my show is back! my show is back!"

Whatever happened to staying with what works and just continuing with existing stories?! I mean, I never felt like this about Buffy, for instance - in it's seven yr run!! like I didn't know the show anymore, like the magic leaked somewhere. but with FNL you can just feel the difference, as soon as with the cold open! girls in bikinis, pool-party?!

the same with this ep as with the premiere ep; I feel I don't recognize this show at times. sure I got emotional at the end - although I wish they just hugged, the kissing seemed somewhat wrong.

Tami just saves the show for me. and Coach being his-wholesome-self.

other than that, when did Street, Riggs and Lyla became supporting characters?! And what's with Street and Lyla not having a single damn scene together!? they were only just freakin engaged!! *angry*

by the 2nd ep last season I was mesmerized; right now, I feel this show is still trying to find it's footing(?!) it feels disjointed a bit - like the scenes with the Taylors, with Matt are the FNL I know and love and these new stories with Tyra, Landry, Swede(?!) all feel like sth rather out of One-Tree-Hill/Dawson's-Creek-Season-6 scripts *sad*

as for being steady and reliable and down-to-earth-his-true-self, at least there's Saracen. I liked that he didn't let Julie give him any bs and then just left her there.
