second seasons

I've finished up the second seasons of both Prison Break and The L word; I know, a strange mix to watch on one night, but I just had one episode of PB to go and two from TLW, so I figured... and while both shows come as close to being similar as apples and oranges, they're both of equal quality. both had exceptional first seasons, with the second ones being a little not up to par, yet quality tv nonetheless.

Prison Break

after 2x18, I was almost decided I wouldn't watch na ep of PB ever again and will not bother come next seas. too many people senselessly die. I mean it might have seem fine and in-tone with the series in season 1, when all the characters were convicts, sentenced to serve time in a dangerous place - both for the body and the soul. but season 2 introduced us further into the characters' inner lives and more intimately to the lives of their loved ones, thus their deaths felt too personal. while I enjoy a good drama, a tension packed one doesn't necessarily mean for me offing characters so my adrenaline level spikes up. this being one one of the reasons I gave up on Lost in season 3 and frankly bc I was bored with these storylines of theirs. I don't want to feel so detached from the characters that their fates will not affect me strongly and I'm afraid it's the only way to watch tv nowadays... and that's not how I prefer it, but I digress...

the last 5 minutes of the finale has gotta be more climatic than the whole Panama arc and I'm really grateful that apart from one major character, who's fate has more or less been decided up to this point, nobody more died (after 2x18).

I'm also rather happy with the way this season turned out overall. with Linc out and Michael in more shit than he's ever been. I hope Mahone sticks around for next season and they make him into a more rounded character. it would be a shame on the actor if he only got to portray this character in these wide strokes he's been allowed to. and I'm liking the idea of this role reversal that's been put into place for season 3. not to ponder too much on the premise, I believe this next season might be as strong as season 1... or I just hope!

on a side note, I cannot believe how annoyed I got of Linc this season, how incredulous it all became that the one guy it was all for (and bc of) was this annoying schmuck.

The L Word

the storylines this season felt bland and the execution was a bit too over the top for me. it's like they focused more on the way to show things rather than on the ideas themselves. I especially didn't like this whole documentary thing they did with showing us certain scenes as if we were watching some reality show, through the eyes of this new character, which I'm hoping won't be back next season and they deal with him the way they did with Tim - in the very first episode. although I miss Tim, wish they hadn't written him out.

regrettably, I felt more connected to the characters after watching the Pilot episode rather than during this whole season. I understood these women more. I also don't like how "on the defense" it got politically...with all these concerts and parades for the lesbian community. I liked how season 1 focused more on *women* dramas rather than *lesbian women* dramas. all in all though, all the storylines got nice resolutions in the finale making this season a whole piece; which is sth I look for in episodic tv - that they have a definite beginning and an end.

as for the characters themselves, I feel more disconnected from Jenny than ever before and even more protective over Bette and Tina's relationship and I still completely adore Shane! surprisingly though, Alice completely lost me, while she kinda lost herself in her relationship with Dana.

looking forward to when I'm gonna accommodate meself some time and treat meself with season 3.

season 2, prison break, the l word
