the boys are back in town

P2 M-town---yeah

The news is true, I have returned to the heartland! After a lengthy drive from O'hare to the Mora the cornfields came in to view. And as we drew closer they grew thicker and higher. I thought to myself, 'self, this truly is the midwest', as I took in the drive-in, baseball fields, and familiar John Deeres. Unfortunately, Illinois has been experiencing a bout of drought...so my front lawn looks something like Pride Rock in the Lion King when Scar is in charge. Shocking, I know. That or the neighbor kids dumped kerosene on the grass and lit a match. Other than the unsightly state of the lawn, it was good to be home.
The ever-present, cleanly smell of dryer sheets wafted into my nostrils as I walked through the kitchen door. I lugged my bags into my bedroomand realized, yes, I was truly home. It's an odd feeling right now. Almost as though I'm home on a mere break from school, since it's so short. Taking care of business and seeing home folk...it's my current occupation. This summer has been so different, so out there. I feel like summer has only begun in the previous two days. Pity.
There's something about this place. The mix of Metamora, G-town, and Peoria. They are all such beautiful places, each with their own importance, each with their own set of memories. I love being in a place where I don't get lost or have to ask for directions.
