My people, how I miss thee...
New York is not what I expected. I'm learning that things are not always what they seem to be. But I'm starting to look for the good in coming out here.
The kitchen keeps me busy for 9 hours of the day, and I have 3 awesome oven burns on my arms to prove it. I open bags, remove contents, occasionally add water, and place contents in the oven for said time. My biggest tasks are not burning things and getting food out on time. Now you can all start calling me Lunch Lady Laura!
I have met some incredible people in my time here. No matter where you go, people are always interesting. I've befriended the most amazing 54 year old lady. She has got spunk and attitude, and I think I want to be her. Bertha is a spitfire and won't take crap from anybody. The girls I live with are really opening up. We're getting used to living together and it's providing for some really fun stories. Yesterday our shower wasn't draining so we called in maintenence. Well, they bring in a ciphen and all of a sudden black gunk is coming out of the showerhead, sink, and toilet! Quite a sight AND smell!
New York is gorgeous! I can tell you that much. The town I'm in is soooo tiny. The closest Walmart is an hour and a half away. It's definitely primitive, but I like the closeness of the community. Everyone smiles at you and I haven't gotten whistled at once by any construction workers!
Keep me in your thoughts...I know these are few and far between. It's once in a blue moon that I have break time while the local library is open. So take care my loves, perhaps I will have an address for you soon. If you like the sound of that, let me know.
I do miss home. A lot a lot a lot.
