Spring Awakening onstage seats today!! It was so not nerve wracking at all sitting up there as I thought it would be. It was really fun.
We had seats AA 4 and 6 which were great view wise since we saw more front and profiles instead of backs of heads. These are two of the seats closest to the front of the stage. I didn't realize exactly HOW close we'd be to the cast as John Groff was pretty much thisclosetome in seat AA2. We were pretty much rubbing elbows. That was the nerve wracking part...sitting next to the cast. John Groff (mostly) and Remy Zaken were the two that used the seat next to me. Random I know but John came out and was still sucking on something...I swear it smelled like watermelon Jolly Ranchers up there for 10 mins..lol. Him laughing along to some of the scenes was so cute. And damn, Lea Michelle is freaking tiny when you see her that close. Two understudies though - one for the Adult Women and Jen Damiano was on as Martha in place of Lily Cooper. Jen did a beautiful job with "the dark I know well".
Awesome things about sitting on the stage
-hearing all the harmonies from individual cast members when they were near you or in Groff's case singing as he sat next to me.
- Being all up in the numbers like My Junk, Totally Fucked, Bitch of Living, etc. Having them dance and jump around right in front of you and around you was pretty cool. And even feeling all the stomping of the feet.
-just being surrounded by that show was awesome and seeing every lil detail and facial expression.
-sitting near the cast as they react to some of the stuff on stage. Groff laughing was too cute.
Not so cool things:
- Getting a chair to the elbow..but really that was no big deal as he had to whip the chair out quick.
- Crazy "we've seen it 10+ times" bitchy girls
- Not being able to appreciate some of the cool lighting from up there.
- a few words dropped here or there bc of the sound design
For those inquiring minds: we were on the "ass" side and got quite the view of Mr. Groff's behind. We were pretty much directly behind him.
Oh and it was nice to see the changes since I saw one of the first previews. Wendla getting dragged off by the doctor was a great change and gave the scene more impact and one of the most noticeable to me. Also, Hanschen used to say "I'm coming!" but now he says "just a minute" or something during "My Junk". "I'm coming!" was hysterical in the context of the scene. Did I mention how I love "My Junk" and everything that's being staged during that song? For some reason, the scene with Moritz and Melchior discussing sex seemed funnier this time...not sure if changes were made there?
Johnathan B. Wright has perfect delivery of his lines.....and that coupled with Gideon Glick's naive and adorable Ernst makes for some great theater. John Groff and Lea work together flawlessly which I think is essential to this show. And John Gallager plays tormented Moritz so well and better get the Tony nom.
Celeb sightings at the show today: Laurence Fishburne and Sara Ramirez.
I really love this show alot and got the signed poster since they collected for BCEFA. It's not the one with Melchior and Wendla like their logo..it's the one that's been used in the media advertising with all the photos of the cast in different scenes superimposed into one photo.
In other news...softball may not be happening for me on Friday as currently my ankle is swollen bc I rolled it out. Wet uneven pavement on 7th Avenue can bite me.
