Title: The Taste - part 12
Author: ChiLoveEmma
Fandom: Hand aufs Herz [Jenny/Emma]
Summary: This is a different take on how Emma and Jenny met, after high school. Emma is a food critic and Jenny just happens to own a restaurant.
Note: Special thanks to Kinz for beta reading this for me. :D

A very confused Jenny ran out of the apartment after Emma. She was nowhere in sight in the hall or the stairway. Jenny hurried down the stairs and out the front door and looked both ways down the street. She could see Emma walking briskly away from her, and took off running after the blonde. She was yelling out to Emma to stop but received no response.

When she caught up to her, Jenny grabbed Emma's jacket to stop her and placed herself directly in front of her.

J: Emma, wait. I'm so sorry. I had no idea that you liked Ben. I was not flirting with him, I swear to you.

E: What? Ben?

J: You like him right?

E: No, why would I like Ben. He's just a friend.

J: Then why did you...

They stood facing each other in silence. Emma looked everywhere except at Jenny.

E: I don't know.

J: Are you mad at me?

Jenny felt terrible. She looked down at her feet.

E: No. I'm sorry. I think I just drank too much.

J: Then why don't we get you home?

E: You’re right. I should probably go home.

J: Let's go.

E: No, you stay here. Go back upstairs and make some new friends. That was why you came, right?

J: I have no interest in being there if you’re not there.

Emma raised her eyes from the ground to a smiling Jenny and gave a half smile herself. They started walking towards Emma's apartment in silence until Emma spoke.

E: Jenny, I'm really sorry for going off on you like that. I didn't mean it.

J: It's okay. I'd honestly rather have you yelling at me than not talking to me at all.

Emma laughed.

E: You are so silly.

J: Me? Silly?

E: Okay, you aren't silly. You are great.

J: You're great too.

Both girls smiled and Emma felt her ears turning that familiar shade of pink. They continued walking without speaking.

As the approached Emma's apartment, Emma spoke.

E: It's just up here, this building on the right.

J: Wow, I didn't realize how close you lived to my restaurant. We are practically neighbors.

E: Yeah, it's a nice easy walk. Would you like to come up for a drink? I feel bad about you leaving the party before you even got to finish one drink. Although, it’s probably better this way… Hotte isn't exactly a mix master.

J: Well in that case, sure. I'd love to.

E: Great. I’m warning you, it's a little messy up there. I was writing earlier and I tend to leave little notes everywhere. I guess it's my process.

J: No problem.

Emma and Jenny walked up the stairs and into Emma's apartment. When Emma hit the light switch, Jenny looked around at the adorably decorated apartment.

J: I love your place. It's so quaint.

E: Is that your way of saying small?

J: Not at all. I really like it. It's very ‘Emma’.

E: I know you don't know me very well yet, but you’re so right. It's exactly me.

Emma was smiling at Jenny as she took off her coat and threw it on the couch.

E: Can I take your coat?

J: Sure.

Jenny removed the jacket she had been wearing all night and handed it to Emma, who was then just standing there staring at Jenny.

J: What? Is there something on my shirt?

Jenny looked down at the white shirt.

E: No. You just look....very nice.

J: Oh. Thanks.

E: So, what's you pleasure?

Jenny panicked slightly.

J: Um, um.

E: What do you drink?

J: Oh. I'm easy. Rum and diet please.

E: Coming right up.

Emma went to the kitchen to get drinks. Jenny walked slowly around the living room looking at Emma's pictures. She saw a picture of Emma and a dark haired girl and felt a jolt of jealousy run through her. She picked up the frame.

J: Who is this?

E: That's my friend Luzi. She's great. She is a professional singer. She is always traveling so I rarely get to see her. I would love for you to meet her next time she's back in Cologne.

J: Sounds great.

Jenny looked down and saw some of the notes Emma had mentioned scattered near her desk. Most of them had to do with food, of course, but then she noticed a small one on the bottom of a pile. She could only make out part of a few of the words from each line since the note was mostly covered.

Emma came back into the common area and went to hand Jenny her drink. Jenny looked up and as she reached out to take the cup, her fingers touched Emma's. She felt a spark go through her body and slightly jumped back causing Emma to drop the cup and spill the drink on the floor.

J: Oh my god. I'm so sorry. Let me clean it.

Jenny ran into the kitchen and got a rag and rushed to wipe up the mess. She cleaned up the spill but kept wiping the floor trying to get the sticky off.

E: Don't worry about it. It's hardwood floor, I can mop it tomorrow.

J: I am such a wreck. I'm so sorry. I need to go.

E: No really, it's okay.

Jenny grabbed her coat and ran out the front door without even saying good bye, leaving Emma standing there with her drink in her hand staring at the front door.

E: What the hell was that?
