Title: The Taste - part 11
Author: ChiLoveEmma
Fandom: Hand aufs Herz [Jenny/Emma]
Summary: This is a different take on how Emma and Jenny met, after high school. Emma is a food critic and Jenny just happens to own a restaurant.

Jenny felt like this was the longest week of her life. She had been keeping quite busy with the restaurant, she was grateful for that. Busy meant not thinking about Emma at every second. Saturday had not come soon enough. Jenny had worried that Emma forgot about inviting her until she got her message on Wednesday.

All of the staff commented that she seemed to be in such a great mood tonight. She could do nothing but smile and continue working.

Emma got to the party early as always to help Hotte get ready. He never had things ready when he said he would.

E: Hotte! You haven't even gotten any snacks ready.

H: That is why you are here my wonderful bestie.

Hotte smiled largely at Emma knowing she would help him.

E: Fine. But this is the last time.

H: You always say that.

E: I mean it, one day I'm going to have a life and you'll be out of luck.

H: By then I'll be able to afford a caterer.

E: Hey!

Emma threw a pillow from the couch at Hotte.

E: It won't be that long! I plan on looking for a life any day now.

H: Ok then. When you find it, you let me know.

Emma went into the kitchen to prepare the only dip she knew how to make.

E: Hotte, I forgot to tell you. I invited Jenny Hartman.

H: The hot chef? Hammer!

E: Please be cool. Try not to hang all over her.

H: Whatever. With all my charm, she will be the one hanging on me.

Emma laughed at Hotte and decided to just let that one go. As guest started to arrive, the party got going. Emma was having a good time and was definitely having a few drinks. She wanted to drink to relax herself and her mind. She thought it would help her to not think about Jenny. Maybe if she was relaxed she would be able to be cool tonight when, and if, Jenny showed up. But right now she tried not to think at all and just have fun with her friends.

Jenny tried to finish closing quickly and as the last employee left she ran upstairs to change. She had tried on several outfits throughout the week. She had finally chosen what to wear and had laid it out yesterday so she would be ready to go. She quickly showered and changed into a green skirt and applied her makeup. She was ready to go, so she headed out to catch a taxi to the address Emma had given her.

Upon arrival, she could tell which apartment was having the party as she saw people out on the balcony chatting and drinking. She walked up the stairs and knocked on the door. Hotte opened the door and let out a huge smile.

H: Jenny, hi! You came!

J: Hello...Harry was it?

H: Hotte. But you can call me anything you like. (Hotte said with a wink)

Jenny just smiled uncomfotably.

J: I should be able to remember, thanks.

H: Come in. Can I get you a drink?

J: Sure. I'd love a rum and diet coke if you have it.

H: Coming right up. Don't move.

Hotte ran off to make Jenny's drink, almost knocking people down to get through to the kitchen. Jenny scans the room looking for Emma and found her in the corner talking to a guy. She smiled and waved trying to get Emma's attention. Emma happened to look up at that moment and smiled. As she continued talking to someone, her eyes remained glued to Jenny. She was clearly having a conversation but her eyes did not show it.

Hotte brought a drink over to Jenny. Jenny turned to look at Hotte and accept the beverage.

J: Thank you.

Hotte began talking to Jenny, more rambling really. Jenny was barely listening as she kept sneaking quick glances in Emma's direction. Emma was doing the same. After a couple minutes, they both happened to glance at the same time and made eye contact. Both smiled at the other. Even knowing it would upset Hotte, Emma motioned for Jenny to come over.

E: Jenny. I'm glad you could make it.

J: Me too. How are you?

E: I'm great thanks. This is Ben. We went to school together.

B: Nice to meet you.

J: You too.

Ben gave Jenny his typical Ben look when he was looking a new girl up and down. Jenny noticed this and turned to talk to Emma.

J: Did you have a good week?

E: Not bad. I reviewed a restaurant that was just okay but the weekend is here now so it's better. How was your restaurant tonight?

J: Busy. But luckily most people came early so I was able to get out of there.

E: Great. Oh, will you excuse me for a minute? I see Hotte needs me.

Emma walk to Hotte who was motioning for her assistance.

B: So you own a restaurant.

J: Yes, it's British cuisine. I've only been open a few months but it's going pretty well.

B: I'd love to come by and try it sometime.

Jenny made small talk with Ben taking any opportunity to make new friends that she had. If Emma liked him, he had to be a good person. She decided to give him a chance.

Meanwhile Emma was in the kitchen helping Hotte.

H: You know that chef right? I need you to hook me up with her.

E: Oh Hotte, I can't do that. I really don't think she's interested buddy.

H: Really? She's just so hot though.

Hotte looks into the living room area at Jenny.

H: Maybe you're right though. Seems she interested in Ben.

E: What?

Emma spun around to see Jenny and Ben standing quite close and laughing about something. Jenny put her hand on Ben's shoulder as she bent down to fix her shoe. Ben placed his hand on Jenny's back as she almost lost her balance. Emma was shocked to see this and marched over to them. She turned to Jenny and was almost yelling.

E: What the hell? I can't leave you alone for two minutes and you are all over Ben.

J: Emma...what?

E: Don't bother explaining anything. I'm out of here.

Emma stormed off and out of the apartment, leaving Jenny behind with a confused look on her face.
