Reign of Revelry FTW!

What an incredibly satisfying opening weekend! The show has really come together nicely and i'm extremely proud of everyone involved in it. Artistically, i'm pretty happy with the whole thing. i was a bit more hands off on this as creative director than i've been on shows in the past. in large part, this was due to just being so busy, particularly with the band, and it was too hard logistically to be directly guiding the development of the show. in part though, it was also a bit of an excercise on my part to really let go and delegate more, and to have faith in the decisions that my staff make along the way. in this regard it was a success, and i now have a better idea of my role moving forward.

The camaraderie amongst the troupe has been wonderful to experience. Getting to have several BCG veterans all in one place for so long is delightful, especially since with all of our busy schedules that doesn't happen often. The really pleasant surprise is our splendid ensemble. they all jumped in with both feet several weeks ago to be a part of this, and their charm and enthusiasm has truly added to the production, both on stage and off.

The space has been interesting to inhabit. Characteristically, we are using the main hall in a way that no one else ever has to stage a show, which means that it's been a constant struggle to make it submit to our needs. i think it's working out, but i'm reserving final judgment for when the show is done. While i like being unique and creative in our staging, life would be so much easier if we just had a venue that suited all of our needs.

With Saturday night's show, we really hit our stride and i'm so glad that we are doing a 2nd weekend of shows. It's at this point though that I want it to just keep going. We've created the show and honed its performance, but with all of that work it often feels like such a shame to only perform it a handful of times. Once a thing like this is created, i want to let it loose on the world. more shows in a week, more weeks in the run, take it on the road! $$ is the real obstacle to this, and i wish i had a more solid plan to overcome that...
