Apols for not having responded to comments/messages yesterday, but I'm still feeling pretty vile, though not so acutely as last night. I will respond when I have enough oomph to do it justice. I don't need anything (thank you), it's just a question of sitting about and drinking tea until I recover. This morning I had the clear symptoms of the start of a cold, but by 3pm they'd abated a bit. It would almost be a relief if I did have a cold, because at least that's an identifiable challenge my system's dealing with, although NOT THE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS, KTHX.
Anyway, however rough I may be feeling, I absolutely had to get some enormous parcels up to the post office this afternoon, so off I trotted, and I feel very pleased to have got that done, as it means I have not been Mrs Failboat this year as regards presents for my sister's family and for my Mum (I know she visited on Monday, but I had quite a few presents for her and some of them were heavy and I didn't want her lugging them across half of South-Eastern England on her own, as she's only wee, and is as dreadful as I am at admitting that she's not physically capable of some things).
So there we are - the most essential Christmas stuff is done, the rest can wait. The only absolute must-do task I have in the next few days is to buy a turkey next week, which is eminently achievable with my biddy trolley and sufficient aspirin. If I need anything else for Xmas day I can ask Dad to bring it with him.
ION, I am genuinely saddened by the death of Christopher Hitchens (and not simply because it leaves us with Peter Hitchens and no obvious anti-venom). I certainly didn't agree with all he said, but he was an intelligent provocateur, morally astute, a great spokesman for atheism, had an attitude to women which was atypical of his sex and generation, and he leaves a considerable gap in the world.
