About the First Kick at the Dick

Apr 15, 2007 23:16

Well, just got home from the second Rapids home game at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, and I never posted about the first game here. So, as requested, please enjoy the following, X-posted from my MySpace blog...

I could hardly sleep Friday night. I basically took a brief nap and then woke up to get ready for the big day. I went downtown and picked up Victoria, Mike, and Mike, so we were two Victorias & two Mikes showing up in lot AA at 9:15 a.m. The Ringuebergs & Burnhams were already there, and before long the tailgating was under way.

There was a photo opportunity inside the stadium where I met Don Garber, the commissioner of MLS. (Photo is up now: http://www.centennialfirm.com/images/mainPages/FrontRangeJersey.jpg) Jeff Plush introduced me as "Victoria Baldwin, the leader of the Front Range." *roll eyes*

It was a great day. I was on a natural high all day. It was great. Just fantastic. A day years in the making, and it was wonderful!!!

We won the game 2-1 over D.C. I froze my ass off. I don't remember the last time I was that cold! By the end of the game this is what I was wearing: a tank top, a long-sleeved silk sweater, a T-shirt, a fleece vest, a full fleece top, a hooded windbreaker, a hat, Thinsulate mittens, fleece-lined windblock running tights, jeans, a fleece blanket wrapped around me like a long skirt, wicking socks, and Thinsulate boots. And still I was cold. I won't go over every detail of the game here because all of you reading this are either BigSoccer people who know what went down or non-soccer friends who would skim over the details.

My photos from the game are here: http://www1.snapfish.com/share/p=85081176094115227/l=259680098/g=28347923/cobrandOid=1000131/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALB
There are some cool photos in the online version of the Denver Post: http://photos.denverpost.com/galleries/newsgallery.html#id=841&num=1
And this is one of Quinn & me: http://es.sports.yahoo.com/07042007/1/foto/victoria-baldwin-right-applies-face-paint-to-patrick-quinn-as.html

After the game a bunch of us went to the British Bulldog to thaw out. We probably got home around 8 p.m., and I fell asleep on the couch before 9 p.m. Matt woke me up to tell me to go to the bed around 9:30, and I woke up this morning at 10:45 a.m. I think that is the most I have ever slept since the 18 hours I slept back when I got my wisdom teeth taken out in high school.

And guess what? It is time to go back to bed already.

P.S. --- Speaking of last week's game---what a success both on and off the field! And in the midst of all the media attention heaped upon the team and the new stadium, the Centennial Firm got a bit of media coverage of its own. Check out this week's Westword for an article called A Kick in the Dick (http://www.westword.com/2007-04-12/news/a-kick-in-the-dick/). Even though the author is largely a Eurosnob poser, he had to admit how much fun we have TAKING A FIRM STAND AGAINST APATHY!
