filed my tax return last night. by the end of the month i should have enough money to pay off my credit cards, pay next months rent, and still have a little left over. oh the joys of having been a student in 2009. new years resolution #1 accomplished. boo yah.
i have also officially established the goal of becoming successful enough on etsy to only need a part time job when ari and i move in august. plus if i plan on going back to school i wouldnt want a full time job anyway even if it is only community college. so.... how do i plan on making this goal a reality?
1. sign up for every free crafting/artsy community/blog/whatever website i can possibly find to share all of my items and link them all back to my etsy.
2. get business cards made. it will cost me about $50 for a thousand done the way that i want. i should be able to do this by next paycheck.
3. wear one item of jewelry that i have made every single day. that way if anyone ever asks me about it or comments on it i can give them a business card. see that? fucking professional and classy.
4. make etsy treasuries which is basically a free way to have my items spotlighted. the only problem is, getting a treasury spot is a pain in the ass, but i've gotta do what i've gotta do. i am going to try and get a spot every single time treasuries become available... which is about 3 times a week.
5. get 100 people to look at my etsy store every day. i'm hoping by having my shit plastered all over the internet this will be very possible. in order to make a living off etsy, i only need to sell 7 things a day or least average 50 sales a week. i'm hoping that if i have at least 100 people looking at my store, 7 of them will be bound to by something. or at least tag my shop to come back later.
6. buy a locked jewelry case and have a sample of my jewelry for sale at go van gogh. i'll put a slight mark up on everything so that go van gogh can get a cut.
7. crank out as much ceramic jewelry as possible before we move. i don't know if i will be able to acquire kiln access when we move which would obviously force me not to be able to make ceramic jewelry. i currently have a very ambitious goal of having enough jewelry for a year of sales. thats just over 2,500 pieces. i figure aim high for now and keep up the pace. i also sell vintage items on etsy, so i can supplement with vintage sales as well. although i would rather keep making my own things.
8. send friends an item of free jewelry with a few of my business cards so that they can help me spread the word....plus i just like sending gifts to friends :]
9. find a boutique/consignment store wherever we move that would sell my jewelry if etsy sales are still low
i feel like these are all totally doable. now it's only a matter of if all of my scheming works.
