New here, but have been dealing with this my whole life

Some people just know that they were not meant to have children.  Some, like me, have always known it.  Others come to that realization later in life - sadly, too many realize it after they have already had children ( Read more... )

I actually adore horses, but I realize I don't have the money, space, or ability to properly take care of one. Just like kids! Ha. I do find that using that metaphor kind of hits home with some of the more persistent "but you HAVE to have kids!" people who just want my hubby and me to join in their unhappiness. Apparently misery does love company.

That does make a good t-shirt, though as for #5, I find a moderate amount of selfishness healthy and I find a desire for a child to be rather selfish, especially if they see some Moreau to have a child.

When people call me selfish, I respond with "Well, barring reincarnation, which I haven't entirely made my mind up about, I have one single life to live, perhaps another 50-60 years left to live, and I would rather enjoy my relatively short amount of time on earth instead of pandering to what you and everyone else considers "normal". If that makes me selfish, so be it." The face of confusion pulled by people makes me giggle.
