Does anyone recall an entry that was posted here detailing someone's vasectomy experience?  I recall it being very frank and humourous.  I've checked the applicable tags, and I've gone through a large chunk of the archives, but it's starting to feel like a needle in the haystack.

I'm looking for it because the topic of vasectomy has been coming ( Read more... )

My husband had a vasectomy two weeks ago. Very similar to what object_sleep detailed above:

- took about half an hour to do. He did feel something during the procedure, told the doc, and the doc gave him more anesthetic. The doc was really cool, and we stood around talking to him about video games for a few minutes after the procedure. That first day there was some pain, but not a ton.

- he was told to wear tight-fitting underwear for a few days, and to keep the region iced (we used frozen peas). By the next day, all he really felt was a dull ache. He does recommend some padded gauze for the first few days, just to keep your underwear from chafing the stitches.

- the sides of his balls got a bit bruised, but that was gone within about 7 - 10 days.

- he resumed, ah, private sexual behavior after a week; we started fooling around together at about 10 days. We were told he needs to ejaculate at least 20 times before being tested for fertility.

- it now being one day less than two weeks, he says that he's generally fine. He still feels some aching if he's not wearing underwear. He's not planning to take up heavy exercise for at least another week.

I had to sign a statement at the doctor's saying that I was okay with the procedure.

Every time I see something where someone's spouse/S.O. has to okay something like this I wonder what the hell single people are supposed to do. ;)

Maybe it would be simpler for some folks to pretend they're single in cases like this; they might get to skip this intrusive step.

The fact that you had to sign a statement is ludicrous. No person should be able to control what happens in another person's body, regardless of the impact it might have on a relationship. Thanks for the details, though. :)
