I've never understood the entire point behind this day. For one day out of the year, people like to spend extravagant amounts of money in order to prove just how much they love one another. I don't think it's a bad holiday per se, though. Of course, people shouldn't forget about love for the rest of the year, but a day in celebration of it can't do much hurt.

Telling people that you care for them on a day made to celebrate the act is fine, it's just the mass commercialization that cheapens the belief is when I believe that it's not a good thing.
