Aarti and Busses

To update my Indian odyssey(hehe yeah right!) I am now in Rishikesh, one of the holiest, spiritually dense new-agey cities in the world.

Rishikesh is right on the Ganges at the foot of the Himilayas (although the climate is sub-tropical) and is populated mostly by sadhus/babas (holy men), Indian tourists and the odd extreme new age hippie.

I can't describe the beauty of the place... but it is full of ashrams and yoga/meditation centres, and cows. At dusk there was a massive aarti ceremony where one of the holiest men in India lead the ceremony where they sing, chant and send off flower offerings into the Ganges. About 100 cute little children dressed in yellow robes provide the counterpoint to the devotional singing, as well as hundreds of people and even a camera crew! It didn't feel very genuine but it was still really pretty.

Before I got to Rishikesh I had to sit through 40 hours in a bus/jeep. It was as taxing as always and I celebrated it with a friend with pizza hut! Oh yeah, I got my daypack stolen on the bus :<

That's my story... but as for me... I am very happy. I slept in the desert for a night (the Sun is mean!), and before we left Ladakh we went to a party/rave in the middle of the desert and there were so many wonderful connections and vibes. I ended up losing my friend and had to run to catch the taxi in the middle of the night in the desert and I got really lost...deserts really break apart space and dimension. I ended up finding my way with a lot of worrying... and..

beep beep beeeeeep~
