fml I have no idea how to go about doing this project. Reading the class forum just makes me go "Qué?" at everything. One more week to work on this brb doing a crash course on the entire syllabus, and I have another assignment I need to hand in on the same day orz|||
Germany photos - Munich.
We arrived in Munich at around 10am local time. It was already snowing when the plane was touching down, we were like "Snooooow" *o*. It snowed the whole time we were there. I love the snow. But not the cold. Most, if not all, pictures were taken by
starstray.
This was our hostel room. 4 You Munchen, such a cute name o3o
Englischer Gartens. Trees growing in the wild and ruins lying around artistically.
The Chinese pagoda / beer garden.
We walked from the Chinese pagoda which was right in the middle of the gardens all the way down to the southern end of the park. Why... I think we were looking for the Japanese tea house. Which, uh, turned out to be not really Japanese.
Saw this on the way, the Monopteros.
The Medieval Christmas Market isn't very big, but there was a lot of people heading there. The stores were selling fur goods, what looked like cloth belts with bells, mock weapons, medieval clothes... there were also people dressed in those clothes.
This is the Old Town Hall just off Marienplatz. It also houses a toy museum but we didn't have time to check it out.
Assamkirche is a really bling church that occupies the space about as wide as one shoplot. And it is smack right in the middle of a row of shops.
The bling interior.
This is the New Town Hall right on Marienplatz. There are a lot of things at Marienplatz, including the Christmas market in this picture. It was around 5pm when we were there, we thought the glockenspiel would chime at 5pm but it didn't :/
We hung around for a bit, walked to another Christmas market a few streets off, grabbed dinner and
hot milk then tottered back to the hostel.
Day 2
Castles!
On the train ride to Fússen. It is so pretty *A* I never thought I'll see flat snowy landscapes like this asdfkjahsfskj it's just so beautiful, I want to see it again.
We took the train to Fussen and then got on a bus to the village of Hohenschwangau.
Neuschwantein from the village.
Horse carriages.
Buses to the castle weren't running due to ice and snow, so a lot of people were walking up.
About 25 minutes later, this!
The side of the castle.
The front courtyard where we waited for the tour to start.
Marienbrucke. Apparently Ludwig II would go out there even in the dead of the night to admire his beautiful castle. When I saw it I really, really wanted to go there, the view would be amazing! But the path to get there was closed due to ice and snow akdjakjsdh whyyyyy.
The lake in between the two castles, Alpensee.
On the way up to Hohenschwangau Castle.
Oh oh oh I saw this tree and got excited because, Christmas tree! With real snow! And outdoors! It even had fairy lights!
After that we took the bus and train back to Munich, another two hours plus trip but it was all dark by that time. Aaaand that's all we did on day 2, when we got back I think we just grabbed some food from the station or the nearby Christmas market, or wait was it the day we went to check out the supermarket I don't remember anymore.
Day 3 was our last day in Munich, we were took the 3pm train to Berlin. Went to Marienplatz again for a short while before taking a tram to Nymphenburg Palace and then back to Marienplatz for lunch.
Frauenkirche.
According to legend, the devil wanted no windows to be built in the church but the builder tricked the devil and built windows anyway. The devil was furious and stomped his foot, leaving behind this footprint.
We went to the New Town Hall again.
This is part of the inside of the new town hall.
...this, too.
Then, off to Nymphenburg Palace.
The stream and the lake at the end was almost all frozen. It was amazing, I've never seen anything like that until that time okay.
Amalienburg, a small hunting lodge near Nymphenburg Palace.
Rococo style.
We also went to the Carriage Museum there, loads and loads of elaborately gilded carriages.
One of Ludwig II's carriages.
This one, too.
Then we went to the touristy Hofbrauhaus for lunch. Pork knuckles and beer, except that I am a weak lightweight and didn't really drink that much beer, haha.
Next, Berlin!
And now back to the project.
