CHAPTER 9
“Hey Chinen. Did you sleep well?” Yuma asks in Japanese. Chinen fakes a smile and nods.
“Un.” He watches as Kyle cocks his head. Why could that girl come to the apartment? And where is Yamada?
“Hello.” Kyle greets him, and Chinen, again, shows a fake smile. Then he heads to the kitchen. “I’ve met him this afternoon and I thought he’s a girl at the first time I saw him.” Chinen can hear that she is talking to Yuma.
Yuma responds with a smile. “He’s kinda cute, right?”
“Yeah. But fortunately, he’s a boy and he’s with you.” Kyle adds.
“Eh?”
“He was with Ryo this morning, and I thought he was his girlfriend.”
Chinen stops his movement. He just stares at his glass with sharp looks. Looks like she will bring Yamada again in the continuation.
“I couldn’t bring him with me this morning so Ryo offered his help, and he accompanied Chinen until I finished my work.” Yuma explains.
Kyle laughs. “You know, I’m afraid if he were a girl and stole my Ryo away. And after knowing that he’s a boy, I felt relieved. There’s no way Ryo will have a boyfriend and choose him instead of me, right? Ryo is a straight. He told me before.”
Chinen can hear it all. Now he has a proof that Kyle likes Yamada and wants him to be hers. And what makes his heart screams is that Yamada told Kyle that he’s straight. Chinen knows, maybe it’s just an excuse to hide their relationship. But hearing it makes him feels very sad.
“Oops, sorry, I don’t have any intentions to bring your sexual orientation to this conversation.” Kyle apologizes to Yuma.
“That’s no problem.” Yuma shrugs his shoulders.
“Hey, by the way, what do you think if I have a short haircut?” She asks to Yuma. “Maybe this level?” She points at her upper back.
“It surely will be looked good on you. Why did you suddenly ask about it?” Yuma asks back.
“Well…” She rolls her eyes. “Do you remember, Ryo ever said that he prefer a girl with short hair. So maybe if I cut my hair, I’d fully be his typical girl.” She answers.
Yuma can do nothing else than smiling. He doesn’t really know how he has to react, because he knows that the conversation is audible even from the kitchen.
And Yuma doesn’t have to be that confused because Kyle has said something more. “Hey, but it’s true right, that Ryo hasn’t had any girlfriend yet? For all this time he has been gossiped to date many girls, but I never heard him giving a clarification that he has an official relationship with someone.” Kyle put his forefinger on his mouth while trying to remember.
“Hmm… Nope.” Yuma answers. Yeah, at least with this answer, he isn’t lying right? Yamada isn’t having a girlfriend because he’s having a boyfriend named Chinen Yuri.
“Then I’ll be his first girlfriend here. Looking from his appearance, I doubt it if he said he never had any girlfriend in Japan. He’s so handsome and gentle, isn’t he?”
“Haha. Yeah, you’re right. He’s the type who can melt everyone’s heart.” Yuma nods.
“Compared with my ex-boyfriends, I can see that they’re really nothing.” Kyle giggles. “I really want to get him. Moreover, his lips are so tempting. They are so soft and sweet.” Adds Kyle while licking her lips.
Suddenly a loud sound of glass breaking into pieces can be heard from the kitchen. Yuma immediately stands and walks into the kitchen.
“Chinen?” Yuma sees that Chinen has already squatted on the floor and picked the pieces.
“Gomen ne, I broke the glass.” Chinen apologizes with a weak voice. Yuma stares at him with worried look. Maybe it’s a bad idea to let Kyle stays there longer. He really feels worry with his little guest.
“What’s wrong, Yuma?” Kyle asks from the living room.
“Nothing big. You can stay there. I’ll help Chinen taking care of the glass.” Yuma answers without turning his head to Kyle.
He squats down and picks the pieces beside Chinen. They don’t talk during that time, until Chinen puts the pieces on a sheet of newspaper and stands to throw that into garbage bin.
“Let me throw this for you. You can make a tea for yourself.” He taps Chinen’s shoulder. Chinen nods while keeps looking down. But instead of taking a new glass, he’s just standing in front of the basin while staring at nowhere. After coming back beside Chinen, Yuma stares at him and pats his head.
“Don’t think about it too serious. It’s just that she doesn’t know your relationship. Do you think Ryo will dump you for that woman?” Yuma asks softly.
Chinen shakes his head. He has decided to believe Yamada from the start.
“That’s the answer right? You know Ryo more than anyone else here. He treasures you so much, and there’s no way he will turn away from you.”
Yes, actually even without Yuma telling him about it, Chinen realizes it from the start, how Yamada treats him as a treasure. If he thinks about it more, it’s useless to feel jealous right now. Yamada is an actor, and maybe Chinen himself can’t count how many people who have fallen in love with his boyfriend. Not being able to control his emotion like that will be like throwing a tantrum and show his childish side. How about the kiss? Chinen understands it’s not a big deal for an actor. An actor has to do what has written in the script, whatever it is, to prove that he is professional. What’s so wrong with a kiss that doesn’t contain a real love? They have kissed for many times, even did more than just a kiss. So what’s the real problem?
“Gomen, Yuma. I made a mess on your kitchen.” Chinen finally speaks again after a while of silence that he used to make up his mind. “I shouldn’t be that emotional just by hearing that from one who knows nothing about Ryosuke and I. Gomen ne.”
Curving a smile on his lips, Yuma caresses Chinen’s head. “It’s okay. Don’t mind it. You’ve felt calmer right?”
Chinen finally looks at Yuma and smiles back. “Yeah. Thank you so much for cheering me up.”
“No need to thank me. You’re a mature one and you surely don’t need long times to get yourself back from your depressing mind.” Yuma praises him. “Moreover, it will be wise not to feel jealous with 16 years old girl who still wants to play with many boys.”
Hearing this, Chinen blinks and smiles ambiguously. “Excuse me?”
Yuma smirks. “Don’t you know that Kyle is 16?”
With widened eyes, Chinen takes a glance at Kyle who’s still sitting in the sofa. He can’t believe what Yuma has just said. “She’s 3 years younger than me? Unbelievable.”
“All you have to do is think that she is a kid.” Yuma pats Chinen’s head again. “Whatever a kid does, you won’t take it as a burden on your heart that much right?”
“I hope so.” Chinen nods.
Suddenly, there’s a sound of door being opened, and as all of them looks at the source, Yamada is coming in. “Tadaima!”
“Finally you get home, Ryo!” Kyle squeals. Yamada looks at her after closing the door and smiles.
“Oh you’ve arrived here. I’m sorry to cause you a trouble.”
“No... It’s me who want to come here, right?” Kyle takes her bag and searches something inside. Meanwhile, Yamada takes a glance at the kitchen, where Yuma and Chinen are still standing in front of the basin.
“Yo Ryo. Are you the one who ask her to come here?” Yuma greets Yamada in Japanese. Yamada lifts his shoulders.
“Hmm. She told me that she brought my watch. It seemed that I dropped it on the studio and she found it. But instead of waiting for me tomorrow, she insisted to come here.” Yamada explains.
Hearing the word ‘watch’, Chinen’s mind quickly refers it to the watch he gave to Yamada before he went to America two years ago.
“Here it is, Ryo.” Kyle hands the watch to Yamada. “It’s your watch, isn’t it?”
Yamada nodded while taking the watch from Kyle. “Yeah. Thank you.”
“You bought it in Japan?”
Yamada shakes his head. “I got it from someone.”
The girl narrows her eyes. “From your girlfriend?”
“No.”
Chinen can hear a sigh of relief from Kyle. As he looks at the watch in Yamada’s hand, he has no doubt that it’s the watch he gave to Yamada.
“Is it from you?” Yuma whispers to Chinen, and Chinen nods. “Ryo isn’t lying, ne. It’s from his boyfriend, not from his girlfriend.” Yuma whispers again and laughs in silence.
“Now you can go home, Kyle. It’s already night.” Yamada speaks again.
Kyle raises her eyebrows. “Why? I even haven’t seen your room yet.”
“You came here just to give it to me right? So there’s no need to do some inspections to my room.” Yamada responds.
“I just want to see it.” Kyle puffs her cheeks.
“Not now. You have to go back before there’s any paparazzi catch us.” Yamada insists. Kyle finally rises from her seat.
“Okay, but someday you have to let me entering your room.” She giggles and takes her bag. Yamada walks her to the door. “Accompany me until I get a taxi.” She pleas.
Yamada sighs, but he has no other choice. “Fine.”
“Okay. Bye, Yuma! Bye Yuma’s boyfriend!” Kyle waves them goodbye, and Chinen gives her a slight smile. He feels uncomfortable when the girl is around and tries to flirt with Yamada. But he feels uneasy if he lets Yamada and Kyle alone.
So, after both of them step away from the door, Chinen sneaks out of the room to follow them. Yuma can just see him while shaking his head.
Some minutes later, they’ve arrived on the first floor. Chinen keeps a distance from Yamada and Kyle, while both of them are talking about something that Chinen can’t hear. Yamada and Kyle are standing outside, while Chinen stays inside the building. Chinen has understood that Kyle is an aggressive one, so he decides that he’ll never let her staying alone with his boyfriend as long as he’s also there. What happens after it makes him convinced more that he has to keep his eyes on Yamada.
The taxi has stopped in front of Yamada and Kyle. From his gesture, Chinen can see that Yamada has asked Kyle to enter the taxi immediately, but the latter seemed not to mind it. She’s still holding Yamada’s arm eventhough Yamada has opened the door for her. But after a while, Chinen can see Kyle pouting, and finally releases Yamada’s arm. But then she turns her head to cup Yamada’s face, and gives him a peck on the lips before enters the taxi while waving her hands to Yamada.
Chinen’s eyes widen and he can feel blood boils up right to his head. He quickly takes the elevator to take him to Yuma’s apartment. He can’t believe what he just saw. It’s okay for Yamada to kiss someone else…if it was an act. But they even didn’t act here, in the apartment! It’s Kyle’s obsession for Yamada. How can he hold his jealousy now? As his official boyfriend, Chinen feels that it’s his right to feel angry now. But again, he can’t blame Yamada. The one took the initiation was Kyle, not Yamada. It’s just his third day here, but he has seen her stole his boyfriend’s lips twice.
“Did something happen down there?” Yuma asks when seeing Chinen entering the apartment with angry face. Without answering, Chinen grabs a glass and pours cold water into it. Then he walks to the sofa and sits there. After closing the door, Yuma takes a seat beside Chinen.
“Is a kiss considered as greeting here?” Chinen asks, still with the same expression. Form his question, Yuma can guess what’s going on.
Take a deep breath, he answers. “Some people consider it as what you expected. Especially, the actors, because it’s a part of our jobs. But there are people who really treasure their lips for someone special.”
Chinen takes some gulps from the glass.
“Ne Yuma.” Chinen calls him. “Which side do you think Ryosuke is?”
Yuma can only scratch his head. “Yeah, you’re his boyfriend right? If you ask it to me, how should I know?” Seeing Chinen’s silent reaction, Yuma asks him directly. “Did Ryo kiss Kyle?”
Chinen immediately shakes his head. “He was being kissed.”
“Then why didn’t you interrupt them for some fake reasons?”
Chinen shakes his head again. “I can’t do that in front of Kyle. When she’s around, I’m ‘your boyfriend’, not ‘Ryosuke’s boyfriend’. If I suddenly appeared there, she would be suspicious right?”
How Chinen can have a clear head in such that situation makes Yuma feels amazed. He has already won from his own jealousy. And if he thinks more about it, what Chinen has said is really true. Kyle might be suspicious that way. And also it would be futile, because Yuma doubts Kyle will stop trying to kiss Yamada even if she’s interrupted.
The door is being knocked, and Yuma knows it must be Yamada. As Yuma stands up, Chinen has already made his way to the kitchen to wash the glass.
“How can you let someone noisy like that entering our apartment?” Yuma chuckles after opened the door for Yamada. Yamada snorts and forces a laugh.
“It was you who open the door for her right?” Yamada retorts while taking a swift glance at Chinen’s figure in the kitchen. “I’m hungry. Do you have some snacks?” He asks Yuma.
“Unfortunately, I ate the last one two hours ago.” Yuma rolls his eyes. But when he sees Yamada stealing a glance to Chinen again, he sighs. “But I think I can buy it in the convenience store. I’ll be back soon.” Yuma shrugs his shoulders and opens the door once again.
“Wait!” Chinen calls Yuma while walking out of the kitchen. In this time he doesn’t want to be alone with Yamada, due to the fact they are still fighting. “I’ll go with you.”
Yuma smiles to him. “You want some snacks too? I can buy it for you too. Just stay here patiently until I get back.”
Chinen shakes his head. “I want to take a walk around here too.” He insists.
“Okay, okay.” Finally Yuma agrees. “Come on.” He gestures Chinen to come closer.
Happily, Chinen wears his sandals and steps out of the room. After Yuma closes the door, they walk into the elevator and take the elevator to the first floor. But after they step out of the elevator, Yuma suddenly stops walking.
“Wait, I forgot to take my wallet.” He slaps his forehead. “Wait for me here. I won’t take a long time.” He rushing back to the elevator even before Chinen can respond him. Watching the elevator door closed, Chinen can only shakes his head. Actually he wants to tell Yuma that he has some in his pocket, but Yuma has already left. So, Chinen stays in front of the elevator patiently, waiting for Yuma to come back. For him, it’s better to stay there than being left with Yamada up there.
But looks like Yuma has a better plan. As the elevator’s door opened 10 minutes later, it’s Yamada who gets down there and he comes straight toward Chinen.

Chinen shakes his head again. “I can’t do that in front of Kyle. When she’s around, I’m ‘your boyfriend’, not ‘Ryosuke’s boyfriend’. If I suddenly appeared there, she would be suspicious right?”
How Chinen can have a clear head in such that situation makes Yuma feels amazed. He has already won from his own jealousy. And if he thinks more about it, what Chinen has said is really true. Kyle might be suspicious that way. And also it would be futile, because Yuma doubts Kyle will stop trying to kiss Yamada even if she’s interrupted.
The door is being knocked, and Yuma knows it must be Yamada. As Yuma stands up, Chinen has already made his way to the kitchen to wash the glass.
“How can you let someone noisy like that entering our apartment?” Yuma chuckles after opened the door for Yamada. Yamada snorts and forces a laugh.
“It was you who open the door for her right?” Yamada retorts while taking a swift glance at Chinen’s figure in the kitchen. “I’m hungry. Do you have some snacks?” He asks Yuma.
“Unfortunately, I ate the last one two hours ago.” Yuma rolls his eyes. But when he sees Yamada stealing a glance to Chinen again, he sighs. “But I think I can buy it in the convenience store. I’ll be back soon.” Yuma shrugs his shoulders and opens the door once again.
“Wait!” Chinen calls Yuma while walking out of the kitchen. In this time he doesn’t want to be alone with Yamada, due to the fact they are still fighting. “I’ll go with you.”
Yuma smiles to him. “You want some snacks too? I can buy it for you too. Just stay here patiently until I get back.”
Chinen shakes his head. “I want to take a walk around here too.” He insists.
“Okay, okay.” Finally Yuma agrees. “Come on.” He gestures Chinen to come closer.
Happily, Chinen wears his sandals and steps out of the room. After Yuma closes the door, they walk into the elevator and take the elevator to the first floor. But after they step out of the elevator, Yuma suddenly stops walking.
“Wait, I forgot to take my wallet.” He slaps his forehead. “Wait for me here. I won’t take a long time.” He rushing back to the elevator even before Chinen can respond him. Watching the elevator door closed, Chinen can only shakes his head. Actually he wants to tell Yuma that he has some in his pocket, but Yuma has already left. So, Chinen stays in front of the elevator patiently, waiting for Yuma to come back. For him, it’s better to stay there than being left with Yamada up there.
But looks like Yuma has a better plan. As the elevator’s door opened 10 minutes later, it’s Yamada who gets down there and he comes straight toward Chinen.
