Mason deffinitely has fleas. I don't know why he didn't get them that badly in the summer, but he certainly has them now that it's freaking fall/winter! He's always scratched a bit, but it's gotten worse, and I've found at least 3 fleas on him in the last couple of days. He's taking Sentinel, but it's either not working, or he's just gotten a ( Read more... )

I was told by a vet I worked with that the only way to kill the eggs is to get a chemical dip done at the vet's office (they aren't recomended for small breeds). I never heard that Sentinel stops the life cycle. Frontline is really effective and there is minimal toxicity.

I could be wrong about the Sentinel thing, but that's what I thought I remembered hearing. I'll look it up.

Yeah, I deffinitely don't want to do anything that's going to hurt him.

Hmm, I didn't know that (I've never used Sentinel). I'd say try some frontline and droplets of lavendar essential oil on and around his bedding/crate.
Oh and vaccum...a lot...forever...

I hate fleas! :P

Haha yeah, if you don't use it you're not really expected to know that.

We only have hardwood for the most part... but my house DOES need to be swept/vaccummed/swiffered.

The fleas will make it through the winter by living on your pets in the house. I strongly recommend applying some Frontline on the dog and cat immediately and then purchasing a flea bomb from a veterinarian to set off in the house. It's the only way you're going to get rid of all of them within a 24 hour time span.

I got them mostly during the summer. I put frontline on him and euccliptius (sp?) oils on him when I give him a bath.
