You might see on the news that Massachusetts had a storm that people are calling a "bomb cyclone" and that hundreds of thousands of people are without electricity. Although we did get 60 centimeters of snow in one day (that's TWO FEET, my fellow Americans), Norman and I are fine! It's been windy here, but the super-high winds were south of us,

I do like that picture, although it also makes me sad, because Adam Nimoy went on to write an autobiography in which he blamed his father's preoccupation with his career for all of Adam's own problems, including Adam's addictions to various substances.
I mean, I'm sure Leonard Nimoy WAS preoccupied with his career, but Adam Nimoy and I are close to the same age - he's two years older than I am - and I remember what the standards were when we were growing up. At the time, it was "the man's job" to work hard and support the family, and it was "the woman's job" to raise the children. I mean, I'm glad those standards are crumbling now, but it isn't fair to judge Leonard by standards that didn't exist at the time. By the standards of the time, Leonard was supposed to concentrate on his career, the better to support his family.
When Leonard was a kid, he was selling newspapers on Boston Common at the age of 10, because his family needed the money. Adam didn't have to work when HE was ten, but he goes on and ON about how Leonard didn't give him enough. When Adam wanted to stop being a lawyer and start being a director, Leonard arranged for one of the Star Trek directors to tutor Adam in the work of a director. Somehow THAT fact never made it into Adam's autobiography. This is an opportunity that would never have been made available to Adam on the basis of talent or education, but he doesn't seem to have appreciated at all just how much was given to him.
And that's probably way more than you wanted to know about Adam Nimoy. :-) Sorry! He made a video about his father shortly after his father's death, and I contributed to it on Kickstarter. He advertised it on Kickstarter as being about how great Leonard was and Spock was, but fully a third of the video he actually made was Adam whining about what a terrible father Leonard was, because he went to work. So I feel personally burned by Adam, since he solicited money from me under false pretenses, as well as feeling bad that Leonard isn't here to protect himself from all the bullshit his son is spewing about him.
