SWEET SIXTEEN

Mar 24, 2012 00:21

Oh em gee, you guys. It's the sweet sixteen. The brackets are now all combined into one. Obviously JK Rowling and Suzanne Collins are ahead so far, but who knows where we will be by the time it's down to eight!

The only one I find really hard is Lyra v. Johanna. I think they're pretty evenly matched.

Vote for Alanna, y'all. Anne is great, but Alanna is a knight and this is supposed to be an actual fight. Tbh, Anne would probably forfeit and cheer for Alanna. (Sympathy for a fellow redhear y/y?)

Alanna ftw. I mean Anne is awesome, but no way could she beat the Lioness!

And yet, you voted for Nancy Drew over Tiffany Aching? Obviously you felt that something about Nancy (perhaps her curiosity or observational skills) would allow her to win out over an opponent who is a witch with the First Sight, among many other supernatural abilities.

As your own vote shows, it doesn't always come down to whose fighting prowess is greater. (Otherwise, Attolia Irene would be wiping the floor with Violet Baudelaire in votes like she would in the cage.) Tenacity, creativity, wits, treachery, heck even luck all factor in. Plus, you know, don't forget to have fun.

Actually, I have no special attachment to Violet or Nancy. I just never heard of the other two and I hadn't seen a campaign that explained why they would win. I guess this is that and I will change my votes but...seriously, chill. This got a little personal.

I was talking up Alanna as a campaign because I didn't know if people knew her as well as Anne.

And I personally like bracket battles based just on awesomeness, but I have confirmed with the mod several times, these match ups are actually supposed to be some kind of real battle. Which can be fun in it's own way.

Do you want me to explain why the Queen of Attolia is awesome? Because I can!! Wait there must be a wiki for these things. ha! There is! (I know you from ASOIAF fandom so I will say she is kind of like how I hope Sansa will end up.)

Now I was totally voting for Tip last round because I super love Tip but it was very hard to choose so that alone should tell you how much I love her.

Tip vs Attolia was hard for me too, but in the end, Attolia is way more ruthless than Tip. Like, orders of magnitude more. As clever, tenacious, and basically awesome as Tip is, she's never assasinated anybody in full view of the court without so much as an "Alibi? Why should I need one of those?" In a fight where the weapons of choice are: exploding heads, OR brutally maiming your future husband, one of these spooks me more than the other. (Hint: it's not the threat of exploding heads.)

As you said, though, the specifics of the fight are extremely vague. Are they literally in a cage? Are they, perhaps, suspended midair over a lake of fire? Were the combatants allowed to collect information on their opponents beforehand, can they entice the audience into assisting, are they all handed rocket launchers or dressed only in a hospital gown? Must they fight to first blood, or to the death, or may they yield immediately ( ... )
