First men's game of the year

I reffed my first adult men's game of the season in Streetsville yesterday. It was a first team, Toronto B division game; Mississauga Blues vs. Toronto Buccaneers. Predictably, it was a step up physically and mentally from doing high school and women's games. The physicality is greater and everything happens much more quickly. It was a very close game and pretty well played for a B division game. I think I did OK. I kept control of the breakdown except for a few minutes at the start of the second half and I think I got the critical calls right. The scrums were a bit of a nightmare, mostly because of early engagement. It really is very difficult to see who is causing the problem and most of the problems were close to the goal line so awarding random free kicks until the front rows sort it out wasn't really an option. Mo C, who watched the second half, suggested slowing the engage cadence down. I thought i was pretty slow already but I think I'll try that. Feedback from coaches and players was once again positive so I guess I'm doing something right.

Also, very tired indeed which makes it more than usually annoying that it's 0245 and I can't sleep.
