Chocolate decorations

So I checked out the Whimsical Bakehouse from my local library b/cI wanted to try this whole melted chocolate technique. Not that its hard to melt chocolate and pipe it out, but the book really gave great directions. So I figured I'd practice it for the first time for superbowl sunday and make a bunch of footballs. They came out OK (I free handed them). Not bad for 15 minutes work (including having to re-microwave the chocolate since my apartment is always ridiculously cold)

But my favorite was the flower. It was soooo cool! I followed a pattern in the book, again freehanding it, just to play around and see what it would look like. WOW, looks like a painting!!! I really love how it turned out. I highly recommend the book for suggestions and ideas if people are into a little more "rustic" or "whimsical" decorations.

And this was awesome: https://www.cakesnthings.com/images/products/1904-8016.jpg Its a candy melting tray. Perfect for melting one (or less) of a piece of melting chocolate and coloring it for when you do the "painting" with the brush that requires very little chocolate. For example, the yellow and orange used for the center of the flower was painted on and you only need a dab of chocolate. (Hope that makes sense- it would if you had the book ;)

Here's the flower I made:

Closeup of football. I'm sure with a bit more practice I'll be able to eliminate the "air bubbles" and make it smoother.

All the cupcakes. They look like eyeballs!
