I don't need this but now that I have it I have some things I want to say.

My local CBS provider lost signal for a good two minutes, cutting out the end of the Finding Neverland intro and most of the number. I suspect CBS was trying to do us all a favor.

And then it starting losing the signal erratically in basically every commercial break after that. So I may have missed a few jokes, though I don't think I missed any awards (or performances, aside from Finding Neverland). But come on, CBS, there's no call for that.

Kelli finally won her Tony! CONGRATULATIONS! Her acceptance speech was FAB.

There wasn't anything I felt super-strongly about this year, tbh. I'm really glad Fun Home won everything it did, it deserved it. (It also deserved Featured Actress (Musical), but having three nominees probably split the vote. Anyway, Ruthie Ann Miles was also fantastic so I can't complain.) And Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori made Tony history as the first all-female team to win Best Score!

And Annaleigh Ashford now has a Tony! I AM VERY PLEASED BY THIS. Despite knowing very little about the play she was in.

I predicted 15 out of 24 categories, which is not terrible! It's better than 50%! I am not very good at predicting wins.

Most of the performances were great. On The Twentieth Century should've picked a different number (although I don't know what would've worked better, just that Babette didn't quite work) and Finding Neverland shouldn't have bothered. (This is probably an unfair assertion to make, given that I didn't actually see Finding Neverland's performance (thanks CBS) but I stand by it.) But other than that, great. Something Rotten was a delight and Fun Home had me crying and An American In Paris was lovely. The Visit was bizarre, but so is the show, so it's not like they were misrepresenting themselves.

Kristin and Alan were fine as hosts. Some of their material was cringeworthy (the ET joke was dumb and terribly placed; give Sydney Lucas her moment, jeez) but some of it was pretty cute.

Honestly I think the reason I wasn't superinvested in anything this year is because it was such a great season? YOU ALL DESERVE AWARDS. You can't all get awards, but I can't consider it a snub because they're all deserved. If that makes any sense at all.

It's been a really great season.

I wish they'd actually air the creative awards, though.

Next year: Hamilton wins everything. Yes, everything. That's my prediction.

broadway baby, tony awards
