Wow, typing this up has made me appreciate the treacle and violently passioned prose that passes for writing at Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and elsewhere. Why can't I just say that I like a song and be done with it? Because I wish to be a wordy bastard

And I hate Fergie. And James Blunt.

Oh, neither can mine, really. My CD shelves are still pretty dominated by mid-to-late 90s stuff, even my Japanese stuff. Ha ha ha. But I "discovered" mp3 blogs this year, and I listened to the university radio station lots and lots, so I'm a bit current on what's hot in the indie scene.
Also, I rediscovered how much I like rap and hip-hop this year. Even stupid rap.
Is there anything you did like?

Fergie is awful, isn't she? Sometimes I wake up at night feeling all dirty (in a bad way) for liking "London Bridge." It helps me to know that I dislike the rest of her work, solo and with the Black Eyed Peas ( ... )

I like the Gnarls Barkley one, but that is the only one I've heard. I'm planning on checking out the others later. Um, John Legend also bothers me. Save room for my love seems like a nice enough song, but the video pisses me off. It's a different girl each time. I hate players. Justin Timberlake's new one is annoying too. I like Hinder, but I wish they had chosen a different song for their debut single. Lips of an Angel is just another cheater/player song in my opinion, but the band shows promise.
What else do you like? As for my Japanese stuff, I'm still stuck on anime soundtracks and Shonen Knife.

And now I'm going to get very wordy on you. Sorry.
The only song of Gnarls Barkley that I haven't liked was their cover of the Violent Femme's "Gone Daddy Gone." It seemed a little pedestrian to me. The rest, however, is absolutely wonderful.
John Legend's songs that are *not* about cheating are his stronger ones, I think. I played Get Lifted (his first album) for about two weeks straight when I bought it; now, I skip the songs that are about fooling around behind his SO's back ( ... )

My current favorite is OK Go, and I am patiently waiting for the CD to come. It's never in at the store, and I ordered it weeks ago, but it never came. Better see about that.

OK Go had my favorite video of the year, the one for "A Million Ways" (scroll down at this site if you haven't seen it). I love it when bands aren't afraid to poke fun at themselves.
