I don't know enough stupid metaphors to be a music critic. :(

Wow, typing this up has made me appreciate the treacle and violently passioned prose that passes for writing at Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and elsewhere. Why can't I just say that I like a song and be done with it? Because I wish to be a wordy bastard ( Read more... )

my taste in music has never been what one can call current.

Oh, neither can mine, really. My CD shelves are still pretty dominated by mid-to-late 90s stuff, even my Japanese stuff. Ha ha ha. But I "discovered" mp3 blogs this year, and I listened to the university radio station lots and lots, so I'm a bit current on what's hot in the indie scene.

Also, I rediscovered how much I like rap and hip-hop this year. Even stupid rap.

Is there anything you did like?

And I hate Fergie. And James Blunt.

Fergie is awful, isn't she? Sometimes I wake up at night feeling all dirty (in a bad way) for liking "London Bridge." It helps me to know that I dislike the rest of her work, solo and with the Black Eyed Peas.

As for James Blunt, the lyrics to "You're Beautiful" are just so creepy. I mean: "She smiled at me on the subway / She was with another man / But I won't lose no sleep on that / Cause I have got a plan." It's a song about a stalker! Who saw a girl, like, for fifteen seconds! James Blunt has made one of those songs that will inevitably be played at weddings by people who just don't get it, like The Police's "Every Breath You Take."

BTW, what's your icon from? I like it.
