I reject your reality and write RCF (Real Company Fic) instead.

Once upon a time, a small company named FUNimation was lucky enough to get the rights to Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. Recognizing the cash cow it had gotten, FUNimation rushed to put the shows on TV. And then it turned its gaze towards distribution. Alas, it was a very small company, one totally unequipped to produce VHS tapes and DVDs for the masses.

"What shall I do?" asked FUNimation despairingly, wrist firmly anchored to forehead. "Production and distribution is beyond my means!"

"Ahem," said Lionsgate, a handsome grin on its face. "I couldn't help but overhear your dilemma. If you'll just sign this contract which will confirm my rights for a long, long time, I can put out Dragon Ball stuff for you. Just the first 13 episodes and the first movie, though. And I'll hack them so thoroughly that Toei will make fun of us eventually."

FUNimation hesitated. While Lionsgate was very large and commanding, the terms of the contract were a bit weird. "You know that it's a 153 episode show, right? And what about the other three movies?"

"Kids are stupid and have no attention span!" barked Lionsgate. "Sign the damn thing so that I can give you money!"

"Okay," said FUNimation, dollar signs in its eyes.

~Fourteen Years Later~

"O Glorious FUNimation," intoned the kneeling fan, "we hath seen a Wal-Mart listing of the first 31 episodes of Dragon Ball. Doth this mean that the contract with Lionsgate has expired?"

A chuckle erupted from on high. "You could say that it has been...taken care of."

The fan hesitated, then said, "And...the movie?"

"You'll get it when you get it, and like it!" FUNimation boomed. It laughed when it saw the fan cower. "Just messing with you. It's coming. Probably. Maybe. Think the dub has already been done."

"Who plays Goku?" said the fan, now standing with hands on hips. "It better be Stephanie Nadolny!"

"Hey," said FUNimation, shocked. "I got Dragon Ball out of contractual hell! Show some gratitude."

"Gratitude?" fumed the fan. "We've had three different actresses playing kid Goku over the years! And that's not even counting alternate dubs. Show some consistency."

FUNimation checked the dub cast list. "Would you accept a fourth?"

~And thus did the fandom did rejoice and howl bitterly at the same time. The End.~

Honestly, there's not much to say about the movie. It's short, it's basically a rehash of the beginning of the series (just like the next Dragon Ball movie is), and it...exists. It's there. I didn't like it quite as much as the second movie, but that's probably because it was the first Dragon Ball animated thing I owned, so I ate that thing up with a spoon.

If you have kids and you don't mind cartoon violence or perviness, this movie might be for you. If you like Dragon Ball, this movie is probably for you. If you do not like Dragon Ball, this movie may rush you through events too fast to change you mind.
