Work is not happy making right now. This month is gonna be a hard one for me what with a 15 page senior seminar final paper due plus all my other final things, not to mention the back surgery that will have me out for the count for a week, bare minimum. Then there is also my parents birthdays, with my dad turning 60, which is a big one, plus easter ( Read more... )

You should be able to tell your work, "there's this day in four weeks, and I absolutely cannot work it, I'll keep talking to people about working it, but know that I'm not working that day." It's four weeks. If you can't do that, and it's acutally likely that they'll fire you for missing it, maybe it'd be better to give notice?

You need to be able to have some control over your time for this next block, with all that. It's not unreasonable. Work should be able to deal with that, and be willing to look out for you. If they won't, they don't deserve you.

Take care. Polonius-style. Except without the getting stabbed part.

Dang. And there were some lovely wall hangings i was looking forward to lurking behind too....

:)

Any way, i suppose i should explain why this scheduling thing freaks me out so much: I had to quite my last job rather than being fired because they allowed an employee to make the schedule, and she created schedules that would make it so that if you wanted a day off that you had requested months in advance you had to give her (the employee making the schedule) two days. (in otherwords she would schedule you for that day and herself off, then say that to work for you would make her have to work overtime, so you had to work two days for her one day working for you. This was a totally bogus thing, so i complained to the manager. this was a new manager, someone i had never dealt with before. She went off on me for over an hour, claiming that I was the bad employee, and all she ever heard about me was negative things and that i slacked off and probably stole from the store ( ... )

Mmm, two-week old post...

This is why retail work sucks. You are always expendable.
Hope it all worked/works out.
