me: ooo
they showed the first look at the new me3 villain
one of the villains
he's chinese!
well, like, fantasy chinese...
but at least he looks asian yay
XD
Jesse: What's so yay abt that? He's a villain
Hahahahhaa
me: dude some exposure is better than no exposure
and it's not negative in that he's not like, a walking stereotype
Jesse: I guessssss
me: like some dragon lady or chinky-eyed wispy mustache man with a long braid and yellow fingernails
hahaha
at least he's depicted as a badass!
Jesse: XD
Mhmmm
me: i mean like
would you rather have zero main asian characters
or have one badass asian villain
I'd take the villain hahaha
I mean I shouldn't say asian
Jesse: Hahahaha
Iiiiiii dunno...I can't decide
me: CHINESE specifically
cuz whenever they do asian they aaaalways use japanese
even if it makes no fucking sense!!!!
japanese people are just cooler I guess
hahahaha
Jesse: Well they kinda are...
Hahahahahaha
me: traitor!
lol

On a more serious note, I know it's kind of stupid to be pinning my hopes on a VILLAIN character who's already been made a complete joke by that steaming pile of a novel. But goddammit, I want some serious representation up in the ME universe. I know he isn't the first Asian character in the series, but I was pretty disappointed with how certain aspects of Kasumi's character were handled. I really like her personality and character design but it seems like her "exotic asianness" is a HUGE defining part of her character, from her name to her boyfriend to her randomly spouting Japanese words/phrases. I really hope Kai Leng's character doesn't give off a ~*mysterious oriental*~ vibe, and I'm praying to GOD he doesn't bust out random Chinese sayings whenever he makes a cool kill or some shit.
Honestly I'm kind of waiting for the race jokes to start, knowing some of the fanbase (see reaction to Jacob's character). I guess I have Deception to thank for giving them non race-related jokes to latch on to while making fun of him.
