Previous Memories: Continued Memory, First Memory, Second Memory

Takaki felt a bit better after going to Yabu, though his mind was still down in the heaps. Throughout the whole day, he couldn't focus, not even during PE, his favorite class. Instead, he was thinking about Daiki... After all these years of unrequited love... Was it really worth it? All he felt was pain right now and it wouldn't stop. He thought that his mom calling him a mistake and pretending that he never existed was painful enough... he thought that his dad passing away was the most painful thing in the world... yet this pain became excruciating more than his childhood. Daiki gave him hope; he was the definition of the hope Takaki needed during those times but what about now? Where did this hope go? Why did it disappear?

Even thinking about Daiki with a girl... he pushed away the thought. Maybe he should stop this foolishness... he had no chance now. Possibly, he didn't have a chance for a long time. Either way, it was a lose and lose situation.

He pushed those thoughts away and tried to think of happy things instead. Takaki's mind somehow shifted to Yabu.... how he was always there whenever he needed him...

Finally, the bell rang for the last period, interrupting his thoughts.

He packed up his belongings and saw Daiki at the corner of his eye doing the same. Then Daiki went past him without a word nor a glance.

Takaki's heart stopped. Why did Daiki seem cold all of a sudden? For some reason, Takaki's legs lead him into following Daiki silently, keeping at a reasonable distance so if Daiki turned around, he could hide easily.

He didn't know why exactly he was stalking him. He did think of the possibility that he was just getting desperate...

The next thing Takaki knew, a cute, petite girl had popped out of nowhere and rushed toward Daiki. She was wearing a white blouse with a blue plaid skirt that was up to her knees. A ribbon was tied around her collar snugly and also hung loose in her short, cropped hair, the tips barely touching her shoulders.

"Dai-chan~" Her high-pitched voice resounded through the air like music. She fluttered her lashes and smiled adorably. "What is this? Usually I'm the one waiting for you," she commented, giggling but Takaki could tell the girl was elated.

"I definitely have no chance... that girl is too cute..." Takaki muttered to himself.

"Well, can't I wait for you, Yuuri-chan?" Daiki retorted, giving her a look. One of those looks that Takaki wished that Daiki would give him.

Her cheeks tinted pink. "A-and you're calling me 'Yuuri-chan' instead of 'Chinen'," she pointed out, looking down shyly.

Takaki knew he should leave but his eyes couldn't tear away from Daiki and this "Chinen." He could hear his own heart breaking all over again.

"I can't help it," Daiki said, grinning and pushing a strand of hair over Chinen's left ear. "Yuuri-chan looks too cute today with that ribbon."

"D-Dai-chan!" Chinen stammered, pushing Daiki out of embarrassment. After a little while, she hugged onto Daiki's right arm, pressing closer against it. "Dai-chan..." she murmured in a soft voice.

Takaki couldn't take it anymore and turned around, walking away which eventually turned into a run. This was worse than earlier and he could feel his eyes becoming watery again seemingly as his vision grew blurry. He needed to find Yabu. Where was Ya-

"TAKAKI!!!"

Hearing his own name, he pulled the brakes on himself too fast, resulting in him tripping and falling. But he didn't care anymore at the moment. He ignored the pain on his knees and arms, letting his tears fall down. Twisting his body, Takaki looked up to see who had called his name. As his vision started to clear up, his eyes widen.

"Dai-chan...?"

Takaki quickly wiped his tears to the side and directed his eyes the other way.

"Takaki... are you okay...?" Daiki asked with a soft voice.

Surprised, Takaki couldn't help but feel his heart warm up, hearing that tone of Daiki's. He remembered Daiki using that voice when he cried... years ago in the park.

"What's wrong?" Daiki asked, worried.

An image of chibi Daiki flashed through his mind, inquiring him the same thing. Except that chibi Daiki had said, "Okay… I’m here for you Taka-chan…I'll always be here..." after. Unknowingly, his face looked vulnerable and needy like before.

When Takaki felt a hand on his arm, he flinched and pulled it away like if he had just touched a hot stove.

"Taka-"

Takaki didn't let Daiki finish. He just stood up and ran as fast as he could. He knew that Daiki probably wouldn't remember, wouldn't care anymore. If he had, he would've done it sooner instead of now.

Daiki looked at the back of Takaki and then at his own hands. "Why did I have the sudden urge to hug him and call him Taka-chan...?"
