Chapter 1 /
Chapter 2 Yamada fluttered his eyes open, popping his head from under the covers. He slowly sat up, rubbed his eyes, and looked around. It was then that he realized that he wasn't at his own house and his eyes shot wide open.
Then Yamada remembered how he got chased by fangirls and took protection under a stranger's home. But where was the owner? He jumped off the bed, looking around the place. The apartment was pretty simple: small living room connected to the mini kitchen and a door leading to the bedroom, which also had a bathroom. The atmosphere seemed a bit cozy overall.
The place was silent and Yamada concluded that his rescuer left for whatever reason. He walked back to the room and his eye caught a slip of paper on the drawer beside the headboard.
He picked up the note and read it. "I have gone to class and will be back in about two hours. I tried waking you up but you wouldn't budge. When you leave, make sure to lock the door. A spare key is in the first drawer, below. And return it once you come visit because I expect at least a thanks. Take care, Yamada. -Takagi Yuya" And below the writer wrote, "P.S. It's TakaKI."
"Takaki Yuya," Yamada said out loud. He reread the note and wondered how long he had been asleep. Yamada plopped on the bed once again, his hands supporting him as he took in his surroundings. There was a study desk with a lamp and a closed laptop plus a bunch of papers laying on it. Books were stacked neatly in a small bookcase, located to the left of the desk. A small waste bin resided to the right of the desk. The white walls were pretty empty except for a bulletin board pinned with a calendar, few post-its, and photos. A closet stood close to the opening of the bathroom door.
Yamada decided to leave after going to the restroom. He wasn't supposed to be here in the first place and should have been at his own house, relaxing. Yamada would make sure to visit the next day to return the spare key and somehow thank Takaki. He would call Yabu to ask for advice on that. He hopped off the headed for the restroom.
Apparently, he forgot to close the door because the next thing Yamada knew, Takaki had walked in on him when he hadn't pulled up his pants yet. He froze at his spot and Takaki mumbled a quick apology before he shut the door.
He felt his cheeks warming up at the thought of someone else seeing him in boxers. Yes, Yamada had done photoshoots half-naked but never had anyone catch him in his boxers. He yanked up his jeans and buttoned it. Then, he washed his hands and took a deep breath before turning the knob.
Takaki was sitting on the bed, loosening his tie. Yamada wasn't sure what to say at this point but he did see that Takaki fixed up his appearance. The older boy noticed him and an awkward silence took over the room. Takaki finally broke it by saying, "Sorry, I thought you left. And the door was open, too."
The singer nodded. "I... was about to leave after going to the restroom," he told Takaki. "I barely woke up a few minutes ago." Although for some reason, he felt guilty.
"Oh, I see. It must be tiring being an idol, huh?" Takaki asked, raising an eyebrow.
Yamada wasn't surprised that Takaki knew about that. The older boy probably saw him on television or something. "I'm used to it," he answered. "I just didn't get much sleep last night." Takaki looked surprised and then Yamada realized that sounded wrong. He added, "I'm not that type of person."
Takaki seemed as if he didn't believe him and Yamada sighed. If he was in Takaki's position, Yamada wouldn't either. "Umm... thanks for earlier, Takaki-kun. You really saved me back there."
"You owe me one," Takaki said, popping off a few buttons of his shirt. "Though those fangirls are seriously out of their minds. So I can kinda understand your position."
"Thanks." Yamada glanced at his watch. He should go now. "Do you mind if I have your number and address?" Once again, Takaki had that weird expression on his face. Yamada mentally face-palmed himself. How come he kept on sounding suggestive around this guy? "You know, since I owe you one so you can call me for whatever request." Never had he have to explain himself to someone more than once.
"Sure." Takaki's tone sounded a bit reluctant as Yamada handed him his cellphone. He input his number and address and gave it back to Yamada. The singer dialed his number and a ringtone played. Takaki picked up his phone and pressed a few keys. "Done."
"Well I better get going now," Yamada finally said, glad that he was leaving. He didn't want to embarrass himself any further. "Thanks again." Takaki led him to the door and Yamada left. As he began to walk, he realized that he didn't have a hat on.
Yamada sighed. He really didn't want to go back there but he had no other choice except to knock on the familiar door once again.
The door swung open and Takaki didn't seem surprise to see him. "Forget something?" he questioned him.
"Err... I'm sorry to bother you again... but can I borrow a hat?" he requested in a small voice.
"Right." Takaki beckoned him inside once again and Yamada waited by the door. His ears picked up some mumblings, which he could understand a part of. "What is fit for an idol... and his style..." Yamada didn't really care if he just got a cheap baseball cap. After all, he didn't want to stand out too much. Though he was amused and curious about Takaki's collection of hats. He must have had a lot if he had a hard time picking one out for him.
Some rustles were heard and after a few minutes, Takaki came out with a mesh hat, which was a type of baseball cap but a bit more fashionable. The hat was mostly black except for the front section that was white plastered with random pictures purposely to look like it had been cut out from newspapers. "Here, I think this one would look good on you," he offered it to Yamada.
Yamada took it gratefully and carefully put it on his head, looking at the mirror. The mesh hat shaded half his face and covered down to his eyebrows. He could still see in it and Yamada had to admit, he did look good in it. Yamada turned to face Takaki. "Thank you... I guess I owe you another one?"
"Just return it next time you visit or something," Takaki said, pursing his lips. "I think at this rate, you'll never be able to repay me."
"I'll try my best to not let that happen," Yamada told him with a frown before heading for the door. He didn't want to owe Takaki more than he already bargained for.
"You sure you don't need anything else?" Takaki asked. "Because I don't want to get up and keep opening the door."
Lazy flashed through Yamada's mind but he knew that this would annoy people in general. "Yeah, I'm sure," Yamada replied, closing the door gently from behind him. "What a day," Yamada thought as he took his time going home.
