Last Chapter

Oct 17, 2007 08:26

I finished the fic last night, which makes me kind of happy. I had an idea last weekend to rewrite the whole thing, and I will be, so I can add a real plot into this things and actaully have things like character development. It's still going to be the same story, but the pregnancy will be a subplot and the POV will likely shift.

And Wufei gets to be the main character, which never happens for a romantic comedy fic, or really any fic. It makes me happy. So keep your eyes peeled, because the title is going to change too.

Also, because it was done last night, it means it got betaed! And not just by me! Yeah! Spelling and grammer errors should be gone.

Anyway...lets get on with this thing.

Working Title: She's Having His Baby
Author: Chibihentaichan
Rating: T (and should stay that way.)
Fandom: Gundam Wing
Summary: The news had been speaking all morning about the Peacecraft baby, but who could the father be?
Notes: Takes place five years after the series, so pretty spoileriffic. This is all thanks to maji_nekochan and the promt she left. So, sweetie, this is all for you!

Part 3

The cry that came from Relena as she ran forward to catch Wufei was something she would have called indignant, but she didn’t care. At that moment she was more concerned with her brother punching the father of her baby. Wufei only stumbled backwards, but she still caught him, and after shooting her brother a punching glare, she looked at the man in her arms and softly asked, “Are you okay?”

Wufei wiped a bit of blood from his upper lip and, in the soft voice that always made her stomach flip, he answered, “I’m fine.”

“Good,” she smoothed an errant stand of hair back into place before turning on her brother, the glare back in full force. “Why did you do that?”

“Relena,” Zechs was serious. His tone was serious. His posture was serious. Even his hair hung in a serious way. It was intimidating in a way that only someone who had spent their life in the military could be. Relena blinked and attempted to push Wufei behind her, which he was obstinately refusing to allow. “Are you willing to give up your life for…”

“I already herd this lecture, Milli, and it didn’t have any effect on me.”

“As your brother, I have the right to…”

“You tried to give it to me when you thought I had eloped with Heero. Which you learned about from some newspaper rag that you read in the line at the supermarket.”

“This is a more pressing matter than puppy love, Relena. This is a child.”

“Do you think I don’t understand that?”

“Then you’ll have no objection to Lucy and I raising…” He didn’t even finish before two voices raised in dissention. Wufei and Relena started speaking in tandem.

Hearing Wufei speak, Relena turned and politely said, “This is an argument between my brother and I don’t think you need to be involved.”

“He is threatening to take my child, so I believe I have the right.”

“I don’t think I asked for your help. If need be, I can raise this child on my own.”

“That is exactly my argument, Relena,” Zechs inserted, not realizing he was no longer part of the argument.

“Why should you if I am willing to help?”

Zechs, feeling impotent in the discussion, looked miffed at being ignored. Quatre placed a hand on Zechs’ back and steered him out of the room saying, “this is going to get very interesting and very private very quickly.

“Because I wouldn’t want to trap anyone into a loveless relationship,” Relena stated while the others filed out of the room. “It isn’t good for anyone involved.”

She was creating a good ire when Wufei interrupted. “Love has nothing to do with marriage, woman.” The statement alone was enough to snap her out of her feminist ranting.

“Of course love has something to do with marriage. It’s what marriage is about.”

“Marriage is about companionship and procreation. Love is a notion that western fairy tales insinuated into marriage. It is nothing more than a legal contract…”

“A legal contract!?”

“If you would allow me to finish. A legal contract to bind families and a way for a father to insure that his daughter is taken care of. Love is a notion that has no place in the brokerage of a marriage contact.”

“I can’t believe you would have such an antiquated concept of marriage.”

“As a child who was sold into a marriage, I think I understand it better than you.” Wufei’s comment deflated the rest of Relena’s ire. She breathed heavily for a long moment.

“You…you were married before?” she asked quietly.

“Yes. I am a widower.” There was a disdain in his last word.

“Did you love her?”

“I was fourteen when we were married. Fourteen when she died. I didn’t have time to love her.”

“Do you think you could have?”

He blinked a moment. “I’m not certain, but maybe. Love is something that grows out of companionship and time. I was never given either.”

“Do…do you love me?” It was starting to feel like a day of questions. She was asking an awful lot of them and they all seemed to have life changing implications.

Wufei took both of her hands in his and looked her in the eye. “I’m certain with time, I will.”

“And you’re willing to marry me?”

“Of cour…who told you that?”

She smiled at him knowingly. “Duo.”

He started to move to the closed door saying, “I’ll kill him,” but she didn’t let go of his hands.

“You still haven’t answered my question.”

With a sigh, he returned to facing her. “Yes, if you’ll have me, I would be honored to be your husband.”

It wasn’t the romantic proposal she would have liked, but it would have to do. Dropping his hands, she gave him a sly smile before she pounced.

Epilogue: Four Months Later

Wufei had to admit, there was something simple about a western wedding that he appreciated. All the planning that went into it, made the affair seem more complicated than it really was. There was no procession. Relena wasn’t going to be carried in on some litter. Her brother would escort her in and, much to Marquise’s chagrin, turn Relena over to his care. All he really had to do was stand at the front and repeat after the celebrant. It was much simpler.

It didn’t explain the nervous knot in the bottom of his stomach as he awaited the start of the ceremony. Quietly, he sat in a corner of the groom suite, listening to organ music piped through a intercom with his head in his hands.

Duo slipped into the seat next to Wufei and draped an arm across his best friend. “Well, this is your last chance to run. After this, they have a legal reason to chase you down if you do.” Wufei leveled Duo a stare, that more than answered that statement negatively, from behind his hands. “Okay. So, do you think Relena made Heero wear a dress?”

The question won a laugh out of Trowa, who was doing his best to take his cravat off without anyone noticing. Quatre, seeing what Trowa was doing, cleared his throat, stopping his lover from removing the accessory.

With a soft knock on the door the wedding planner called through that it was time for them to take their places. As the four men in the room gathered themselves together to head into the chapel Duo said. “Man, I wouldn’t have through that four months ago I would be at your wedding, ’Fei, but I’m glad for you, y’ know.”

“Good.”

“We all are Wufei,” Quatre added. “I know that Relena will make you happy.”

“Isn’t it supposed to be the other way around Winner?”

“No,” Quatre shook his head with an amused smirk. “She’s already happy.”

“You just have to make sure she doesn’t work too hard,” Trowa stated, looking sternly at Quatre.

“I’m certain that won’t be a problem.”

“It’s harder than you think.”

“’Kay, enough advice from the happy couple. Can you guys gimme a moment with Wufie?” They nod and leave the room without comment or fanfare. “So you really ready for this?”

“Yes.”

“’Cause in a couple of months that kid is going to be born and nothing is going to be the same again.”

“I understand that, Duo.”

“And I just want you to know, that as your best friend, if you ever need a time, away from the kid, you can always ask and I’ll take him off your hands for a weekend or whatever.”

“Thank you for that.”

“Okay, then, let’s go get you married.”

So, it's done. Hope you enjoyed the fluffyness. It's not going to be that way much longer.

This weekend Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D comes out in theaters. I can't wait!!!!
