But hopefully much entertainment!
Just a few things that have happened recently that I wanted to get down on "cyberpaper" (what a horrible term, let's never use it again) before I forgot about them completely.
1. Yesterday, a blimp flew over the school! It was awesome! I mean, I was scared for a while that it was going to start dropping bombs or exploding or something, but it didn't AND the resulting debate on how to say it English was fun and educational! Now, apparently in Japanese, blimp is literally "flying ship" which is nice, you know, descriptive and stuff. Now, when asked, my first response was, as should be obvious, "blimp" - this was met with a great deal of skepticism though. I don't know why, but, on reflection, 'blimp' really IS a silly word. Naturally, I fell back on zeppelin, which, despite not being strictly speaking English is, and I think you'll agree with me on this one, a MUCH cooler word. However, this TOO was not felt to be satisfactory and, in the end, the electronic dictionary had to be consulted.
Now, according to the electronic dictionary, a blimp is ACTUALLY an airship; a blimp is, in fact, a small airship. Now, in my experience, (and I admit that I do not have much in the way of blimp-experience) an airship is what you get mid-to-three-quarters of the way through a Japanese RPG. A blimp, on the other hand, is a blimp. It is not a SMALL blimp, although it can be. Am I wrong about this? I could be. Maybe airship IS the commonly used word for large blimp, I don't know.
Zeppelin, on the other hand, was met with approval by the electronic dictionary, although I supposed the word has been co-opted by what we must all admit was a pretty damn awesome band.
pictures of the blimp to appear...at some point.
2. I got chopsticks from the construction company! And a note. Apparently they were going to do construction work on the railroad (which runs right next to my apartment building) at some strange hour of the night and wanted to apologize in advance for disturbing our beauty rest. Apparently this was supposed to happen last night, but I can tell you right now that the mutant demon frogs were WAY more annoying than any theoretical construction going on. In fact, as the word "theoretical" implies, I heard absolutely nothing, which speaks volumes for either my earplugs or the croaking prowess of the mutant demon frogs. (I do not actually know whether they are either mutants or demons, but they are DEFINITELY really loud. I mean really, really loud)
Anyway, the chopsticks are very nice. Wajima laquerware. You have to wonder how many pairs they had to give out...I guess one to everyone living along the tracks over some predetermined length. That's a lot of chopsticks.
Incidentally, this pair of chopsticks is something like the 11,986th to be give to me or someone in my family this week. But more on that in the "Ewa's Extended Spring Sojourn" entries to come.
Ok that's it! must get beauty rest for classes tomorrah.
