Happy friends day!
I’m always too happy to share this day with the community out there.
Is always a signal of how important it is to my country to be friends, and the friendship as value.
Also is a day to think about what tomodachi means.
Sometimes, many occidental countries treat a Japanese person like an alien (so everything is unique and even inconceivable to any human being) while others try to occidentalize them (erase every trace of their asian culture).
A quick search in a dictionary will lead you to the translation of tomodachi to friend. There will be other types of friends with other combinations of parts of the same kanji, like childhood friend, best friend, long term friend, acquaintance, friends by convenience, work friend, and so on.
As you see, I post the only single in J’s with the word “AMIGO” (FRIEND in spanish). The writer said that he learned that the weight of the word in Spanish is more than a simple tomodachi.
I noticed sometimes, fans talked about losing members of groups like it was a crime. On the other hand, praising groups because “they get along well”. The surprising thing is that fans always get used to hearing “we are not friends” from the members of every idol group.
And that’s the fact of today, Tomodachi also means companion, teammate, member of the same group. This doesn’t mean that for work you must be friends.
In a sense they were selected by their abilities, by the way they “characters/public persona” match with the others, as a worker force. They don’t have real ties, a real feeling of friendship bond.
And is perfectly understandable in their culture. I don’t get why a person must fake a smile to work with a person who they don't like, it's only work isn't it? . So next time when a member steps out or leaves the agency, just think they are working. Maybe, and just maybe they got used to it or just started to “get along” with his co-workers, and then last 20 years until they split.
Being a friend, like in my country said: is your sibling that life has given you.
