Shane got away. Shane slipped through their fingers like sand. Even though Hotch had assured his team Shane would be caught, all any of them could do was hope. As much as he wanted to start a man hunt for Shane after all the lives he had destroyed, Hotch wanted even more to go home and see his son. The same son he had almost lost year ago.
Everyday, Hotch was glad to have arrived in time to stop Foyet. Even now, as he drove up the drive-way, Hotch wanted nothing more than to see Jack. He wanted to hear his son talk about everything he did with Jessica and how much fun he was having in school. Knowing Jack was safe and well made Hotch's job much easier than it had been a year ago.
Before Hotch even got out of the car, Jack was already running towards him. Hotch smiled at his son, watching an improvised towel cape billowing behind him. Once he was out the car, Hotch pick up Jack and held him closely and tightly. Hotch wanted to forget all about Shane and everything he did or would do.
