I think I'll go to Boston

Mar 21, 2010 10:25

First outdoor track meet went down in Boston yesterday. Although it felt like it was mid June not mid March. I def got sunburnt. not as bad as it could've been tho, I (against my instincts) put some sunscreen on.
Had to get up at 4:30 for the 4 hour trip to down to Boston and I could not sleep to save my life. And it was to dark to read (I brought lots of read for my classes. And I did end up getting halfway through one of them) And my friend Griff fell alseep on top of me = numb shoulder for two hours. The meet was predominatly a thrower's meet (of course there was running events and the other field events) so we had to wait in a redickulious line to get our impliments (of torrure) weighed in. And had only a half hour before our first event started.

Yay hammer! Hammer is (for those un- track-savey people) a small metal ball attached to a wire about two feet long with a handle which you "lasso" around your head then do spins (b/w 1 and 4) and release into a field. I was really excited to throw it. It was my first time throwing it in competition dispite having practicing it for almost a year now. My first throw was great! I threw it 32.29M (106ft). The next two throws were even further but I I threw them out of the sector so they didn't count. But with that first throw, I won my heat (first flight so the really good girls were yet to come) and beat my own teammate by a couple of centimeters. We were done by 10:45. my second event, discus, was supposed to start at 1.

So I sat in the sun, reading and goofing around with my teammates. Womens discus didn't start until 6:30. It was so stupid. The rest of women's hammer and men's hammer took forever! Then they still did men's discus before women's. Very poor organizing. The officals are every inefficient. So the sun was already setting by the time I got to throw. They combined all 40 some girls into one big flight, we got one warm up throw and then one real throw before it was to dark to see the discus anymore (I think some girls didn't even get a turn.) I didn't do well. I have slowly been getting sick of discus (having done it for five years and improving very little will do that to a person) So I was not enthused to be throwing in such awful condishions. Oh well.

Ohhhhh shit. It is snowing right now. Yesterday it was over 60 degrees out, today it is snow. I love the weather here.

Best part of the meet yesterday - Vanilla almond milk. A bit sweeter and more calories then original, but delishious in frosted flakes and coffee. I almost drank the entire cartoon yesterday.
