The Chingay Parade

Today, my family and I went to watch the Chingay Parade. Normally, the Chingay Parade is held every year in town, along Orchard Road for the tourists, but this year, they decided to bring it to the Heartlands. In fact, they started right at the field next to Causeway Point, which was within walking distance from our house. As a result, we went to watch the procession. I wore my high-heels because I was afraid that I could not see just in case someone taller than me went in front of me. Of course, this was a very high probability because I am rather short, the shortest in the family in fact. As it turned out, we were actually early so we got to sit along the roadside.

Before the parade started, we walked around the field to look at the floats. There were also other performances going on, as well as a speech by the Health Minister that we did not attend. We did not really watch any of the performances, but we did watch the flag dance performed by the Lion Dance IG from Republic Polytechnic. It was performed on the field next to the stage, and the flag was so huge that we could practically see it from a distance, and the third flag had the Republic Polytechnic logo on it. Of course, my brother and I were excited, since after all, it was our school. At least, it is my school now, because I was posted there a few days ago.

After that, we walked to the road where the Parade was going to pass through and we sat on the curb to watch. As it turned out, I really did not need my high-heels, though I was still quite eager to look taller that I actually was. The Parade was a slight disappointment though. The sky was still bright at seven, so we did not get to enjoy the full effect of the lights. The floats were good though, they looked as if a huge amount of effort was spent on them. The scariest was the first float; some of the guys on it really looked like women. However, the main disappointment was that the parade was too short, we really did expect more floats. However, it still was better than the Lotte World Adventure Parade we watched in South Korea.

What I did enjoy though, was the fact that we got to wave at the MPs who rode by on an uncovered double-decker bus. I was unnerved because they were looking right at me while they smiled and waved at me, because I am a bit uncomfortable with looking at people right in the eye. It already is the second time this year that I got to interact with politicians; the first was when Mr Teo Ser Luck came to MI and I asked him about policies concerning streaming. All in all, a good day.
