More Tails....
So, here is the e-mail I got tonight. Holy Cow am I in a better mood. I was so afraid that it was going to turn out to be distemper. PHEW! I just hope nothing else happens with this little guy.
Timmy is doing great!! He is fiesty and eating and has normal poop!!! He ate through his IV line twice so far. Guess he is telling us he doesn't need it anymore. In the morning (if the IV is still in) I will pull the IV and start him on oral medications.
It is very unlikely that this is distemper. I talked to Tip in the bahamas and she said the dog had 4 sets of vaccines, was never exposed and was quarantined. In addition, they have had no cases of distemper since Feb2, and the incubation period is a maximum of three weeks. It has been eight weeks. So it is probably just an acute case of ehrlichia. He had diarrhea since I got him and I was treating it with all the normal meds, but I bet it was related to the Ehrlichia that he already had so the all the meds weren't working. He is on the correct drugs now (it feels like I am giving him dozens of different drugs every hour, but I am exaggerating.) He is on two kinds of antibiotics in addition to the doxycycline which is the normal treatment for Ehrlichia. He is also on pepcid for his tummy, a drug for his diarrhea, vitamin B12, dextrose to help his appetite, a drug for parasites (just in case there are other parasites that we cannot see), and just fluids in general. Wow!!
