Five minutes ago, I got kicked out of a bar.
Sure, I am more than four years over the legal drinking age here, but regardless, they won't let me hang out with my friends, who are often three or four years younger. They inform me I've had too much to drink, which is frankly absurd.
I spent $15 to get in to a bar!!! FIFTEEN DOLLARS!!! I've had two drinks tonight. Two. Despite an hour break from my one drink at dinner, the powers that be kicked me out of a packed bar before I even completely finished my second drink.
I hate spending money that goes to waste, and it took two months of convincing before I was willing to spend the $15 to get in tonight. The #1 dj in all of australia was being sponsored by my college, and Johnsmen convinced me to go. Sadly, I spent my money with a bunch of drunk college guys. Being the only sober person amongst the group, I was all of a sudden the person in charge. I helped buy boxed wine, cheap vodka, and Victoria Bitter. Surely we had enough alcohol for everybody at the informal at the bar. I imagine that everybody had a blast, and they sure were when I left, but the bouncers wouldn't let me back into the party. Because I had made the choice to take care of someone who did leave the bar drunk, I got banned from the bar. It turns out that if you leave even if only to take care of someone, they won't let you back in, and if you question that they ban you and threaten to call the police.
I just wanted to drink a little bit with my friends and hang out with a small group. Getting drunk can happen anywhere, but reflecting over one's fresher experiences is unique. I'm really not going to be at an Aussie college for that much longer. Hopefully later tonight, I will found myself amongst a small group of Johnsmen and Jets, and I will have a terrific time. I only hope to get to know people a bit before I leave. Maybe they'll even let me into a bar tonight.
