mantra

I just noticed this yesterday. At work. Hanging on the wall that's behind the administrative "section" of the office.

Everything on the periphery blurred. No one seemed to noticed that I'd stopped, and was staring.

Why? Who put it there? Was this a starvation-induced hallucination? A plaque that says:

NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS THIN FEELS
The anorexic's mantra. Right in my face. At work.

My feelings were mixed. "Phew," I thought. "Finally, thinspiration at work!"
Then, "What the fuck? Do they even know what that is, and what it means?"

I asked the semi-overweight 60-year-old admin asst. if it was her plaque:
"Oh yes, it was a gift."
"Oh."
"Why do you ask?"
"No reason. Just familiar with the quote."
"Oh yeah! It's inspirational, don't you think?! Of course, you don't need that kind of inspiration, just look at you!"

They know not what they do.
