CSU: This Time Around - Chapter 14

JaeJoong looked tired. It was clearly revealed on his face, the extra few wrinkles on his forehead appeared ever so often since he started his day as the new appointed Chief of CSU. He didn't need to be reminded that it wasn't even half a day past and he certainly wasn't too pleased to add more tasks to his already busy day.

JaeJoong hadn't yet figured out how YunHo sustained such responsibility for several months without much of a problem, other than himself. For the past two hours, during lunch time, YooChun came barged into his office to have a chat. It was uncommon but he endured the angry fella and for a while there, he thought he could at least finished his lunch until he received a call from ChangMin, asking for help.

JaeJoong was not afraid of hard work. It came naturally to him but this one was far too much. Before he gets to munch one more bite, he got a call from his 50-something supervisor. That man issued him an order to have all the autopsy reports on his desk by the end of the day. He added that family members were slowly piling up, with medias and a couple of upper level management that he openly labelled them as 'vultures' prying on him, and he was thinking of consuming several pep pills to treat his depression very, very soon.

JaeJoong couldn't care less of what's about to happen to that man, he was an asshole anyway, fancy insulting everyone for the sake of having fun; but the thought of the paperwork coming his way, sends shiver down JaeJoong's throat. He had enough of the state of difficulty he was currently in and he wouldn't want to create a doorway for that jerk. And he was sure as hell didn't want to share a bottle of pep pills with his boss before the sun sets. He's only 23, for Pete's sake.

A little over an hour later, JaeJoong get to solve at least one of his many problems. YooChun just needed some convincing. Very easy. Everyone with eyes knew the sexual-deprived profiler likes JunSu, and JaeJoong told him that JaeBeom isn't what he seems to be. When the younger man asked what did he mean by that, JaeJoong just shrugged it off as, 'I know him. He isn't into JunSu, okay?'

JaeJoong just had to stay collected for several more minutes before shooing the profiler off his yard. He was praying silently to the Lord above to guide YooChun's prying eyes to JaeBeom's wedding band. The wedding JaeBeom had wanted JaeJoong to keep it a secret in favour of his beautiful wife. So yes, JaeJoong was very sure that the 'so-called JunSu stealer' was not stealing JunSu away from YooChun who hasn't even own JunSu. Maybe he should get a doctor to prescribe a pep bottle for YooChun instead.

The second one needed him down to the interrogation room because he couldn't stand seeing ChangMin ripping his hair off his very fine scalp. So he travelled down four floors, right after telling RyeoWook of what he has to do once he's done with this and off he goes into the room. A hand calmly on his pocket. Knowing YunHo, anything could happen.

"JaeJoong!!!" The man hugged him when the ex-chief realized JaeJoong wasn't the only one coming in through the door, YunHo snorted. "What is he doing here?"

"YunHo, you have got to stop this" JaeJoong said, staring fiercely at his 'kind-of' lover.

"Stop what?" YunHo asked in confusion.

"Stop all your bratty act and start being scared of what's coming your way"

"I am not scared of anything. I am however, with him taking over" YunHo said, pointing to ChangMin.

"You're scared of ChangMin?"

"He neither had the experience and luck to get me out"

"YOU are running out of luck. YOU don't have the right to bargain. YOU have no idea how much I have to deal with people coming right at me with all sort of problems and...and I'm about to explode if I don't get to do what I'm supposed to"

"So, he asked you to persuade me to talk?" YunHo smirked at ChangMin "JaeJoong, just get me out"

"I'm busy" JaeJoong snapped. "And no bargaining. It's your choice, if you want to get out of here in one piece"

"And you expect him to get me out? Come on Jae, he isn't very bright" YunHo complained. "You and I are ...you know... and I trust you and -"

JaeJoong seemed shocked and hushed him before anyone hears. "Look, look, look....no need for that. He knew"

"Knew what?"

"We're THAT" JaeJoong said sheepishly.

"How? When? Why?"

"This morning when we were ...urm....well...."

"Oh.....okay......I think I get it. So, he's your new 'boyfriend', huh?" YunHo seemed in total disbelief, stood up abruptly and lunged towards ChangMin. "You decided to choose him instead? That's why you took so long to come see me and wants him to get me out so he could earn a little credit for himself in CSU, is it?"

"What? No!!!" JaeJoong rushed over to stand in between them and tried his best to loose the tight grip YunHo has around ChangMin's neck. "YunHo, let go of him!!!"

While trying to get more air into his lungs, ChangMin shoved his brother away from him with all his might, resulting in all three to land on YunHo, with JaeJoong sandwiched in between them.

"So, he's your new boyfriend, huh?" YunHo asked, looking right in JaeJoong's eyes but got really pissed to see ChangMin too, was staring back at him. The boy was giddy enough from the sudden drop that he didn't notice he had his hands all around JaeJoong's waist.

YunHo did, however.

JaeJoong wanted to get up but ChangMin was on his back, pressing his groin at the direction of YunHo's, earning a moan from JaeJoong, much to YunHo's dismay.

"So, it's true then"

"NO!!! Oh for Pete's sake YunHo, why are you acting this way for? We aren't even official"

"Yes, we are" YunHo argued. ChangMin wasn't sure where he's at.

"We are?" JaeJoong stopped squirming and looked at YunHo.

"Not with him around" YunHo switched his gaze to ChangMin, who was clearly not comfortable with their position and tried to get up, only to have a pair of hands gripping him down, crashing on JaeJoong, yet again.

"Officer!!!"

ChangMin managed to cough out before two officers rammed into the room, held on both YunHo's flailing arms while giving an escape route for his visitors. ChangMin watched in horror as JaeJoong took out a syringe from his coat and jabbed right on YunHo's right arm, making the other bawling out angry words at him while had his eyes on ChangMin.

After what seems like a minute or two, YunHo lay unconscious on the floor. JaeJoong nodded before the two officers deport YunHo out to the room and most likely to his cell. ChangMin observed the other man, who turned around after making sure everything was very well taken care of.

"Luckily, we have this" JaeJoong heaved a sigh of relief. "Look, Min. I need to go. Someone needs me"

ChangMin was dumbfounded. He stood there for a minute or two, thinking. He wasn't sure what to say or how to describe it. As he watched JaeJoong's retreating back, the medical examiner seemed...happy? He was more beamy, almost too lively. ChangMin groaned in desperation. He needed to get his brother to talk and when he did, that stupid fool confessed his love for JaeJoong. Gosh...when will he ever not get himself involve in this YunJae flick?

"Shim ChangMin?"

ChangMin turned to his left, where a slender woman with a slightly wavy hair looking at him with a smile.

"I'm Park GaHee" She said, offering him her card. "I believe you need my service"

YooChun stood watching from the other room. Sitting in another room is the girl identified herself as Jessica Jung, Lee YoungAh's roommate who just got back from her long ride all the way from The Big Apple. She was escorted to the police station right after her security guard found her cab drove through the driveway. The nominated prom queen had her long hair tucked to the back of her ear and waiting anxiously for someone to question her.

"So you want to question her or let me do the honour?" JaeBeom suddenly asked, startling YooChun a little. Just a little.

"You wanna do it?"

JaeBeom turned over to JunSu. "JunSu, wou -"

"You and I, in there right now" YooChun interrupted and grabbed JunSu by the arm out the room.

"Why are you doing that for?" JunSu asked, stopped as he stood right in front of him.

"Why am I doing what?" YooChun wasn't paying much attention.

"You're being rude, YooChun" JunSu said. YooChun was unhappy.

"Well, you're being too limbo. Now, get inside and fill in your quota"

"There's a quota?" JunSu gasped in shock. Why hasn't he hear any of that?

"Yes. Now go before you get yourself fired" YooChun said, pushed JunSu into the room and deliberately closed the door.

JaeBeom watched the profiler smirking at him, or maybe smirking at nobody. JaeBeom had shifted his standing position to the other corner of the room. He was observing the girl (who had tears in her eyes upon arrival) as JunSu took a seat and introduced himself, as well as YooChun before asking the series of questions.

"I'm sorry for your lost" JunSu said.

"Umm...yeah" She replied softly as she took another piece of tissue to wipe her reddish eyes.

"We're going to ask a few questions. Just take your time, okay?"

"Okay"

"When was the last time you saw her?"

"Before I left to Long Island four days ago"

"Before you left, have you noticed anything different?"

"Like what?"

"Like doing something she doesn't do daily or often"

"Well....she did received a call from a guy...I'm not sure who it was.....I was eavesdropping when I walked over to the bathroom" Jessica said, still sobbing as she spoke."She had her door opened a little"

"What else did you hear?"

"I can't remember. Don't think so it was important. YoungAh always receive such calls. She's a vice for the International Students Program. She helped them cope here"

"Have you met them?"

"Most of them. They come and go, ya know. Once they got the drill, they just ignored her after that"

"Ignore as in?"

"Normally they'll say 'hi' and a little chit-chat then later on they just don't bother"

Questions after questions were given. Jessica doesn't seem to have a problem answering. Her answers had a hole here and there but it deemed normal to YooChun, it's common to have them leaping here and there when emotions took over. It was normal until the pattern took a downright turn when they noticed her answers were too detailed. It also seems that she knew more about her roommate than herself. She had forgot the ring tone of her phone when it rang, she missed out a thing or two when talking about her trip to Long Island.

YooChun knew something was amiss so he decided to add her to his top list of liars. "We found a crown missing from her dresser. Do you know who might have it?"

"The crown's with me. She gave it to me, asking me to get it polished" Jessica said. YooChun noticed the word 'crown' and 'to me' were emphasized and slurred.

"All the way to Long Island?"

"No. She said she needed it polished but by the time I get back, she'll be flying home so she gave it to me before I left"

"It seems like you two were close"

"Not that close" Jessica murmured, soon realized what she had said, quickly looked up. "I mean we were roommates. We pretty much keep our stuff to ourselves but we do talk and help...just not that often....you know...and we could have at least try to....but...but now she's....."

The question went from how YoungAh lived her life as an outstanding Chemistry sophomore to her little secret life. Each questions were answered with sobbing in between but was pretty detailed, which raised further suspicion for JaeBeom and YooChun. It does seems like she's reading a script, at least that was what JunSu thought. Because she knew every little detail of YoungAh's needy medication for her chronic indigestion for which it was classified as confidential unless YoungAh herself told her, which was arguable, but doesn't that mean, they were close?

"Do we need to do this here?" JaeBeom asked, admiring the rows of preserved items in kept bottles.

"Any suggestion?" YooChun asked.

"Anywhere but here"

"No such luck. JaeJoong-hyung loves it here" YooChun smirked. "Not comfortable?"

"Actually, JunSu isn't, right?" JaeBeom viewed the man beside him. JunSu was paler now than he was before.

"I'm going to be alright" JunSu said. "Not as if I didn't step here before"

"Are you sure?" JaeBeom asked again.

"Yes, thank you, JB" JunSu nodded.

"JB?" YooChun had an eye brow raised.

"My initials. JunSu calls me that now" JaeBeom said with a smile.

"Is....it?"

YooChun was counting from one to ten and..... again and again until he reached hundred. He was holding onto the two papers of evidence tightly, it became slightly crinkly.

"Okay, I'm back. What do we have?" JaeJoong practically hops into his little heaven and stood before them. "JunSu, you don't look too well"

"I'm okay"

Noticed the deep staring from his opposite, JaeBeom continues his little deeds. Placing a hand on JunSu's back, he asks, "You know what? Why not I bring you out somewhere later and -"

"Can we just focus to what we're supposed to do here?" YooChun suddenly growled, fingers almost ripping the papers in hand.

JaeJoong cleared off his throat and starts off the discussion.

"RyeoWook got all the samples sent to respective labs: hair, finger, nail for any signs of familiar traits and they all came back negative. It says here that there were too much foreign attributes found and unless we can come up with something, they wouldn't want to test for us...but RyeoWook did mention that the face wasn't exactly fish"

"Fish didn't do the bidding?"

"They did. But there were some fine cuts left over here" JaeJoong wheeled his magnifier to the other table and uncovered the white cloth. He positioned the glass on the deformed face and pointed to a single and fine short cut on her cheek and another right under her neck. "...and here"

"Could it be something like a smooth rock?" JaeBeom asked.

"Maybe. But this were too smooth for a rock. My guess was a knife"

"Not enough as evidence" YooChun stated.

"Which means we can only rely on what we have" JaeJoong pointed to the abdomen. Both YooChun and JaeBeom have a closer look from the magnifier. JunSu stood still on his feet. "This cut. See this?"

"A rough one I see. Crocodile bite?" JaeBeom questioned.

"There's no crocs in Boston" YooChun said, almost looked like he's trying to start a dispute with JaeBeom.

"Um...well, no, not bite. Crocodiles normally munch the whole thing instead of leaving one small piece behind" JaeJoong said. "Rough, yes but the cut is too consistent for teeth"

"So, what is it?"

"I'm guessing a tool like a machine" JaeJoong suggested. "Anything that could formed such smooth cut around the edges and straight down without having to look ragged"

"A chain saw?" JaeBeom beat YooChun from answering, making the other unsatisfied. JaeJoong tried to saviour his morgue from being a warzone.

"Probably. Someone with skills to handle one too" JaeJoong tilted his head to the side and quickly changed the subject. "Okay? So what do you have?"

"Her roommate took a long winding road to Long Island to attend a week seminar. Her alibi was proven by the security and the signature of attendees" YooChun said, handing out a copy of the almost crumpled two papers he got from HeeChul.

"It can't possibly be her. She doesn't look like someone capable enough to pull off such stunt" JaeBeom said.

"Getting rid of a body is not easy as it sounds" JunSu drawled, looking at JaeBeom. "Though, she does have a reason to"

"True" JaeBeom nodded, as they shared a smile. "But we can't hold her long for that"

YooChun could feel his temper boiling. JaeJoong bit his lower lip to stiff a laugh.

"Remember the fluid flooded in her lungs? Well, the results out" JaeJoong said, passing the piece of paper to YooChun, who was stupefied with all the long scientific names printed, covering half the page.

"Um...Jae-hyung, you have better explain this term. Chemistry isn't exactly my thing"

"What are you actually good at?" JaeBeom spoke in response.

"Math"

JaeBeom interrupted before JaeJoong was to say something. "Really? I thought yours would be Sex Ed"

"That too. I'd learn to improvise it. You see, sex to me.....is like math. You subtract the clothes, add the bed, divide the legs then multiply" YooChun said, staring straight at wide-eyed JunSu, ignoring the soft chuckle coming from JaeBeom.

"Uh....acc....ording to this report, it shows that the fluid contains lots of a...a...."

JaeJoong looked back and forth between the paper and his team mates. Neither of them were paying much attention to what he was going to say. Though, he loved to explain every chemical composition printed on that damn paper but, judging from the way JaeBeom and YooChun glaring at one another with JunSu appearing oh so confused, the coroner determined to resume with a straight forward question.

"Which river that you know of was once quoted to have its water the colour and temperature of lukewarm coffee?"

For once, JaeJoong felt as if his frozen bodies were more responsive than these people. YooChun was staring at JunSu right in the eye, as if he's trying his best to decipher his flirtatious 'arousal that was about to grow in size' beneath his Levis. JaeBeom just shook his head, chuckling and turned to JaeJoong, apologized seconds later for not listening and the coroner was on the verge to knock his head on the table when the double door to the dimly lit room was pushed open slightly and a small head popped in.

"Um...JaeJoong-sshi?" KiBum asked, looked almost dishevelled. "We might have a....um....am I interrupting something?"

"No. What is it?" JaeJoong asked.

"I got through part of it and I think you should see this"
