A general service announcement for Exit 51
Ok, now I know that LJ shouldn't be a marketplace for other things, but this is an exception. Seeing as how most people in Exit 51 use LJ, this is probably one of the best ways to get the info around.
Today, we had a kind of impromptu meeting, just to get some ideas for what we need to discuss in greater detail tomorrow at the actual meeting. We all took notes, and I promised that I would toss them up on LJ for anyone who wants to comment and/or put some more ideas out there. So without further ado, I give you our wonderful notes:
Fudraising is something that we really need to start working on now so that we can afford to publish, and keep the club running financially. We had a few ideas on what we should do:
---Selling Candy bars (like a sports team).*** The only problem with this is that we would need to double check with Ms. Vanni to make sure that we can actually sell candy. I have heard that the school staff frowns upon clubs selling candy, so we would just need to get an ok first. Other than that, this is a really easy way to generate profit. We can buy boxes of 30 from Cosco/BJ's for $15, and sell them for $30.
---Ice Cream Sales (We did this last year I believe). *** This might be better for when the warmer weather hits, so we might put this idea on hold. If it worked last year, then it might be a good idea to do it again this year.
---Bake Sale *** This would be ok, but we would just have to work on getting the baked goods. While bake sales are pretty profitable, it just requires a lot of manpower to make the stuff to sell.
---Open Mic/Karaoke Night***This is the idea that we thought would be the best. Depending on what the full club decides tomorrow, this might be something to pursue soon. If we did want to do this, we would have to (as my mom says) "Get our butts in gear and start movin'!" This would be something that I would be willing to help organize, as well as Elise. We would need to start oraginizing that ASAP if we want to commit to it.
Submissions- We were trying to think of ideas that would generate interest in the magazine, and get more people to start submitting. We had trouble finding a way to reach out to the people who generally don't submit to Exit 51, so we might need to think somemore tomorrow at the real meeting. As far as things to do, we made a list of things that need to be accomplished in order to allow people to submit/ attract people to submit.
---Boxes and forms in the house offices*** Abbey is willing to go to the house offices to check that there are in fact boxes in every house office. If not, then we need to try and get one in there; also we might need to put the boxes in places where people can easily see them. Abbey has also volunteered to make sure that there are submission forms along with the boxes for people to fill out.
---Talking to the Art Department about Art submissions*** Grace volunteered to go to a few art teachers to ask if any of them had students that wanted to submit art projects. Those would be nice and pretty in the magazine. :-)
---A Commercial for the morning update*** Alyssa and Elise volunteered to think of commercial ideas so that we could post one on the Morning Update. I know they had a few different ideas as to the theme, but we will get ideas from the club tomorrow.
That's just about all we talked about at the "meeting", but we will definitely bring these ideas to the meeting tomorrow. Hope to see you all there. YAY! Go Exit 51, we is totally the literary-est!
