Found: a 9x13' Oriental rug in the attic of the B&B.
Determined: It must be used somehow.
Action Taken: Existing area rugs shifted about in house from room to room to accommodate this large piece of carpet. A large garbage bagful of leftover dog hair vacuumed up (Where was this rug? How did we come to acquire it?)
Determined #2: The rug stinks of some unknown irritant. Really stinks.
Action Taken: Large rug lugged to back of car on its way to rug cleaner.
Determined #3: The $200 cost to professionally clean it is too steep. We can do that ourselves. (Yes, you see it coming..very obvious.)
Action Taken: Large rug lugged back to outside deck; 2 hours spent hosing it off, "shampooing" it with a broom and a hose.
Determined #4: This rug still stinks. Overwhelming urge to either take it back and spend the $200 or leave it at the side of road for some other optimistic soul to take.
Action Taken: Drive to Lowe's, spend an hour looking for carpet cleaning machines. Spend $200 to purchase one. Spend 2 hours working on this rug out on deck again.
Open Question: Does the rug still stink? Is it even worth all this effort? How many other rugs/carpets will have to be cleaned before the heavy unwieldy carpet cleaner machine can go to the basement?
