[Action | between 1761 Beaver Street and the liquor store]
[Not being one to even consider trying to drive one of those self-propelling vehicles, many people may find Varric on his way down to the Liquor store. He's actually quite enjoying his job at the bar, and wants to do his best to practice his drink making prowess. He may be trying to find

So have a pink peacock mincing his way into the building, going right on up to the bar and perching on a barstool with a smirk at Varric.]
You made a phone call?

I did make one of those "phone calls," and now I'm serving the drinks. Let's get what you're having out of the way first.

I admit, it's a difficult ensemble for the average person to carry very well. I've always been extraordinary that way, but you've an eye for good taste.
I don't know if you have the things to make a lemon martini, but if you do, that would be lovely. It doesn't sound like you've been in Mayfield long.

Well, I do know Martinis...so maybe I can figure it out.
[Varric sets to work, answering Dist's other statement as he mixes the peacock's drink of choice.]
You guessed right, haven't been here long at all. It's a good thing I was assigned this line of work, though...I still feel right at home.
[Varric finishes with Dist's drink, placing the slice of lemon ever so carefully on the rim of the martini glass and setting it in front of the Peacock.]
Besides, places like this are best for learning new things, as well.

[He sips at his drink and seems particularly pleased with it, then reaches into his coat and pulls out a few folded sheets of paper.]
Have you gotten my pamphlet yet? I put it together just for this kind of situation, for new people who are still getting their bearings. You seem to be adapting fine, but more information never hurts.

[Varric looks down at the familiar papers, then gives Dist a grin.]
I did run across one of them, yes. I think I found one hidden away in the library.
[Varric pours himself a tumbler of the sauce as well, taking a drink before continuing.]
Though, since you were kind enough to provide so much information...I was wondering if you had any information not in these pamphlets...things a man of the world may find interesting...or may find helpful to know.

[There's genuine surprise in his tone, but he folds the papers back away and returns the grin.]
How clever of you. Well, that certainly saves me some time. You've been so accommodating, I don't see how I could refuse you more information; the letter is designed for introductions, see, but as you've gathered it's not a full history. What specific questions do you have?

I want to know more about these "tricks." Especially since I don't much appreciate being "tricked."

It's just what it sounds like. Sometimes the town seems to change outside our captors' control, and sometimes they just do things to play with us. Elaborate things, apparently; they almost destroyed the town recently for a practical joke, not that you'd be able to tell looking at it now.
[He sneers into his drink, not much appreciating having a pile of now possibly useless information from it to sift through.]

Anything learned is worth having, I say. So after these little tricks and games we get some of our things back.
Hmmm...I guess it sounds like fun, for the most part. Especially if we don't really die.

We do get our things back, but I wouldn't call it fun.

That sounds pretty heavy. But no, I don't mean "fun" in the enjoyable sense.
I mean "fun" in the sense it will be "fun" to show them how much a Dwarf does not like being played with.

Six times, yes, though I don't think I hold the record. If you intend to help me take this place apart, I'd be interested in seeing what you can contribute that we don't already have.

Though, I have spent a life making a rather good living out of dealing with the underbelly of most cities. As a member of the Merchant cast I have quite the penchant for doing such business and getting out of trouble.
My abilities to disappear in the shadows and other stealthy things doesn't hurt, either. Other than that I'm just a simple Dwarf with a decent amount of skill.

I try to avoid dealing with any kind of underbelly, at least personally. I've done my share of lying and stealing and I'm not ashamed of it, but I do try to be selective about the company I keep.
[Meaning, of course, that only a select amount of people will put up with him long enough to be counted as "company," but it's not likely that Dist himself understands this yet.]

Though, I don't know yet if this place has much of an underbelly. Working here will hopefully provide some clues to that.
