Early Thanksgiving

Nov 18, 2012 23:46

Because everyone has different plans for this week, my family celebrated Thanksgiving today with one of our traditions-a barbecue. No matter what the weather, we always have a barbecue to celebrate one of these three: Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year.

The party was at my parents' house and there were several guests who were invited to share the meal. I was anxiously scanning weather reports all week and dismayed to learn of the rain hitting our area over the weekend. It poured yesterday; today was overcast but free of rain. Yay! My dad would still have been able to grill if it rained, but it would have been more work for him.

Here's what was on the menu:

Appetizers: spinach artichoke dip with sourdough bread strips and vegetable dippers, bacon wrapped mushrooms
Main course: grilled ribs, grilled chicken, Honey Baked Ham, pumpkin soup, garlic mashed potatoes, grilled vegetable assortment, dinner rolls with honey butter, cinnamon butter, or plain butter
Dessert: warm pecan pie with vanilla ice cream

So much food. All the guests went home with leftovers, including me.

I was responsible for the entertainment while my parents put together the meal. We played the "unwrap a layer" game that I usually do for the Christmas club party. The guests enjoyed it and mat_kat's cousin ended up winning the last layer grand prize: a Cinemark gift card.

I'm exhausted. After all the guests left, I helped my parents clean the house and then I went home and did all the household stuff I put off when I was sick last Wednesday.

I hope all of you had a great weekend. I meant to catch up with my LJ reading today, but I don't think I can right now. I am off to bed.
