Turkey and a Holiday Meme
Today I finished the last of the Thanksgiving turkey leftovers that my parents gave me. Since I was talking about this yesterday with friends, I might as well post it here. My favorite use for turkey leftovers are sandwiches and my favorite turkey sandwich starts with a freshly baked baguette. Warm the meat, place inside baguette, and serve with freshly made gravy. I had that today and I consider it to be comfort food.

1. Eggnog or hot chocolate?
Hot chocolate. Although I like eggnog, I'll only drink it if it isn't too strong. I have to dilute eggnog from a carton with milk to make it more palatable to me. I haven't tried the eggnog drinks from Starbucks yet, but I might get one tomorrow.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
As a child I got wrapped presents from Santa. Now that I'm grown up, Santa leaves a card in my stocking with cash or gift cards.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
White lights for the tree; colored lights outside the house.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
No.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
The week after Thanksgiving. I usually have a tree trimming party with my friends.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
My mom's noodle dish. She also makes several times during the year, but I associate it with Christmas because that is when she perfected the recipe.
7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?
Flying to Guam to spend the holidays with my grandparents and decorating my stuffed animals with wrapping paper, ribbons, and bows.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I found out when I was seven when I saw my parents put a huge box under the tree on Christmas eve. I didn't say anything at the time. On Christmas morning, they dragged it out and proclaimed it was from Santa. I never told them what I saw, and we never had that Santa talk. That's why "Santa" still gives me presents for Christmas. Hee!
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
No. We don't open gifts until after we go to mass. Presents are usually opened after lunch on Christmas day.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
I usually get two Noble firs for the holidays. The larger tree stands in the living room and is decorated with ornaments I've collected over the years; I have a huge collection of Hallmark ornaments and decorations from my childhood. I still have the bell I made in second grade. It's hideous, but it always goes on the tree. The smaller tree stands in the family room and it's a Harry Potter themed tree. I also get a small topiary tree from my parents that serves as my dining room table centerpiece. I have mini ornaments and lights specifically for that.
11. Snow! Love it or dread it?
I love it since it doesn't snow where I live! I go skiing in Tahoe with my friends at least two times during the ski season, and that's enough snow for me. I hate driving when it's snowing. I used to live in Washington as a child and I loved building forts, making snow angels, etc. when it snowed. I still do that when I go to Tahoe.
12. Can you ice skate?
Yes.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
Yes. My mom had a health scare a few years ago during the holidays and the best present was having her on the road to a full recovery.

Family.

Toffee and other homemade candies.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Going to midnight mass with my family and eating soup afterwards. We then stay up all night watching Christmas movies.

I don't have one, but I love the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I had two VIP tickets to see them in Reno/Tahoe on November 24, but I gave them to mat_kat. I wanted to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family. Mat's family celebrated Thanksgiving in Tahoe, so I gave her the tickets. The tickets were given to me through my credit card rewards program.

Yum, but I prefer peppermint bonbons.
21. What do you want for Christmas?
My two front teeth... That song is stuck in my head. :P I want a new laptop and it will probably be my Christmas present to myself.
