My poor little Natalie is sick. I noticed that she seemed a bit warm at swimming lessons yesterday but I thought it was just because of how warm the pool area was. She was fine all day, even ate a really big meal (homemade meat loaf, potatoes, rolls, and broccoli). I haven't been sleeping well and was determined to go to bed early and sleep. I slept for 2.5 hours before Natalie woke up crying at 12:30 am.
She had thrown up all over the bed. She was upset and stinky. I had to clean her up, give her a shower (it was in her hair, poor thing), get her into new pj's and snuggle her into my bed. I then woke up Virginia and put her into my bed as well. I needed the lights on to clean up this nasty situation.
Of all the parenting tasks I hate, vomit is the top of the list. I can handle poop, pee, boogers, and a variety of other nasty, unhygienic things but vomit is the worst. I scraped up as much as I could and then flushed the chunks down the toilet. Then I had to strip the whole bed, including her new waterproof, allergy rated mattress sack. Luckily, none of her toys were in the line of fire. I threw in a load into the washing machine and then destinked the area. I found some extra sheets and remade her bed. I gave her one of Chris' pillows since hers was in the wash. By 1:30 I had them back into their beds.
At 4:00, it began again. She woke up screaming and had puked all over her bed and pillow again. Her clothes were good so I washed her up and put her into my bed. I cleaned up her bed (it was clear this time), took the pillow into the laundry room, and went to bed. I decided to finish during daylight hours. This wasn't as bad so I left Virginia in her bed. I tried to give Natalie some acetaminophen for her fever but it just came back up. We sat on the bathroom floor for 20 minutes to make sure that she was done heaving and then headed for my bed. We slept, sort of, until 7:00 when the other kids woke up. She threw up one more time, just bile this time, after we woke up. She is now on the BRAT diet and was able to keep some water, a bit of toast, and a couple of slices of banana down. I waited a while and gave her allergy medicine and then about 20 minutes later I gave her more acetaminophen. She seems to be keeping it all down for now.
We skipped church and she probably won't be going to school tomorrow. They want the kids to be fever free for 24 hours before they can come back. I am now watching Virginia and Sam to see if any symptoms develop. She is not too happy about missing out on Halloween night but I have assured her that her sister and brother can bring her bag with and get some candy for her. Not that she gets to eat any for a few days, but it is the thought that counts.
Maybe I will sleep tonite.
